those flat shoe laces they sell work and look really good. I made a set before, figured out how long I needed them and then folded over some of the end into a loop and had my mom sew them.

i have used about 12 guage speaker wire. strip coating so it will look like cable. now take a couple of the small electrical connects blue ones i think. the round ones and crimp them on each end. run bolt/screw thru them and into chassis and axle and you have it.

could do the same thing with yellow ribbon. hobby lobby had some like this for $1 for 6ft.
