| CHEAP, MUST HAVE steering upgrade....Check it...
After blowing up a CVD a couple weeks ago I decided that I didn't really care for the metal sticks. Sure I could go out and spend ~$80 on a high quality set but why? If I can get a tighter turning radius, lighter setup and a more easily to alter setup for 1/4 of those high end $80 CVD's, why spend the $$?. I have just under $20 into my setup now. What you need is a set of Revo knuckles(x4) and a set of revo sliders(x4). Everything bolts on. Sure you might have to shorten the Revo sliders(female side) if you have a narrow Maxx like myself. This upgrade will also widen your stance by about 1/4" per side, so each axle will gain 1/2" of width. This is good for those running wacky offset wheels or if you're just looking to get a bit wider. The other advantage for swaping in Revo knuckles is you can get away from those wacky steering setups too! Thanks to the high steering setup the Revo knuckles allow, you can run a solid/straight tierod. Sure some ample trimming is required to get the tierod to run straight but to me it's worth it. Plus if you do have a Maxx you have already done plenty of chopping to the stock plastic and a little more dremel work won't kill you. This is a MUST have upgrade!! I have to say that it's one of the best mods I've done to this Maxx. Good cheap upgrade for those out there like me who are CHEAP!! |

Yes I have just tested the revo axles out in a comp with moabs and zombie maxx's on and had a couple of times that the axle was bound under a rock and they survived. I have been running the same revo axles for about 6 months and just converted the carriers over so that I could run the outer axles. Very good move. Not to mention they turn further. My only problem is that I have a curved tie rod. I like the staight rod and the servo mount. I have a similar mount.

I'm only counting the parts I have needed to buy to do the swap. I picked up all 4 knuckles for $10 off of eBay and added a another full Revo slider for another $10 from the LHS. There's my $20. But since I no have no excuse to go 4WS.... I have to drop some change for the Hitec HSR-5995 now. Damn truck is starting to be more of a project, just after I thought I had finished it I watched eBay for a while, watching the Revo knuckles go for $10 to $20 for the set of 4. I just waited 'till there were a few of them posted up and crossed my fingers and won! Next after the servo upgrade is full Revo diffs, custom axle housings and lots more time.

well this got me thinking tonight - if someone already has a good set of cvd's and wants to do this, do they have change them out to the revos ? - anyone know if the revo is the same width as the wide maxx ? - toyo I'am guessing you didnt cut off the bottom arm on the kunckle ? |

got lost a bit on this one------ if you have good CVD's now, why change just yet? but yes you would need to change. the revo knuckle hole is bigger. so the reg maxx CVD would be too small. not sure, but i think the revo is a tad wider :? as for toyos' knuckle, are you talking about how it has to spots(tabs) to connect steering to. if so, then no he didn't cut them. it's there in the pic |

I did this a while back after breaking 3 of 4 cheap cvd's in two runs. Its GREAT!! I have had no complaints from the axles anymore, and the play was reduced as well. I need to remount my servo to get the steering straighter, but it is mounds better than it was with all maxx parts. I have aluminum bulks, and i really dont want to shave them down for the servo, but I think that its necessary to get everthing clean. I guess I could bite the bullit and go back to plastic, but aluminum is shiny. |

Toyo, Did your knuckles come with bearings? If not, what size and how many are needed? |

Yes, mine came fully loaded, bearings, pillow balls, rubber gaskets/boots, etc.. eBay can be a great thing if you are patient enough.

i looked it up on tower and for the front knuckles only ( 1 left and 1 right) it said you only needed 2 bearings... so i guess they only go on the inside, unlike the maxx knuckles.. can't say for sure since i have never owned a set of revo parts.. maybe brett or someone will chime in that knows for sure

one large bearing on the inside of the knuckle, and a smaller bearing for the outside. 2 2x18 and 2 12x8 i think. Whatever the stub size is for the smaller bearing. so 4 bearings for 2 knuckles.
