There is a reason everyone on this board uses them.
I'm going to check them out

You won't be disappointed. Eddie the owner is a top notch guy (Nova's Ark screen name). He really has it down when it comes to crawler foams and the tuning of. You can find him in the vendors section here too.

I'm not sure which one i like more. This one or the URC Chimera A. There about the same concept except the Chimera A uses a Slash 4x4 as the base.

Great truck btw lol

It would be fun to do a multi-event shootout between the two vehicles--rock course, mud, track race, tug o' war

Sorry to NecroThread this, but I had to ask...

Matt, how much did the swing-arm conversion narrow the wheelbase on this? It is a dramatic difference against the original, and am trying to figure out if it is mostly the wheel/tire combo, or the narrower width, or both...

I always thought the original was a great truck, but completely silly looking. This has made me want to purchase one...

I dont understand this at all.... why would you take a amazing all around basher truck and narrow it and put smaller tires on? I guess it looks more scale, but if you want a scaler why not by a scaler? Or build something like the chimera a if you want a 2.2 IFS truck.

I can see your point TurboShadow, but I just saw it differently. I thought that he nailed the width, and turned it into a proper monster truck. I personally would use a bit taller tires, but traxxas seems to make their monster trucks have super long suspension arms, extending the tires way beyond the chassis/body (almost like stilts), and using crazy wide tires. They seem to have the dimensions of a box. I guess when I think monster truck, I always think taller then wide. I am not saying I am right, just my opinion...

Wheelbase is about the same. Width, of course, is totally different. Build one--you'll love it.

Fair question. I built this because I love the features of the Summit (2-speed and remotely locking diffs). The body is generic, but it has a cool scale look with the exo-cage. The proportions of the stock Summit seem way off to me. I wanted a more scale look. As you said, you get that. Why not build a true scaler? Because my scalers are good for crawling and scale off-roading, but not so good at bashing. The Summit LT is a best of both worlds type vehicle--it's fast and it can do real go-slow off-road. I have to be perfectly clear that it is no comp crawler, but it can and does crawl. It also goes fast and can jump. It looks cool while doing it.

Matt, thanks for the inspiration. I ordered me one today for a fair price of $509 shipped. Still an expensive rig, but it is a lot of truck...

Matt, I was putting together a parts list from your article, and didn't see any Hexes for the new wheels. Does the Slayer wheels use the same size Hex as the Summit, or did it need to be swapped out?

No, the Summit uses a 17mm hex setup that I ditched. I went with 14mm hexes from a Slayer.

Okay, last question Matt, I promise. (For now on, I can send you a dollar for every one)...

You said you replaced the steering links with Slayer Pro units. Are these Toe links the same units you were referring to?

Searched the google for "Slayer Pro steering links", and stuck out...

Yes, they are often called steering links in front and toe links in back. Same part front and rear on the Slayer Pro. 5939 for stock or 5939R for the optional links

I think the build is really cool. I just picked up a used Summit in a trade deal and was really thinking about trading it off for a "Scaler" truck so I could join a local group. But then I remembered your truck in my March issue so I pulled it out today and re read the article. Well I think I am just going to keep it now and do this to mine. I think having the best of both worlds will be just what will keep me running it for awhile.
