Default Something different 2.2 Maxx

Well hell with it.. I had this truck all planned out, but as you guys know, not everything works like it should. So I guess I may just throw some tubing around it and call it a day for now Unless I figure something out..

anyway.......

It is a 2.2 maxx, WB will be 12.5", width is 11.5",Diff clearance is 2 1/4" and belly clearance will be 3-3.5" mark, motor turned and clocked to the belly for weight, Front dig capable(internal), custom maxx axles, revo shafts, blah blah blah, etc etc etc.

So here are some pics. Now, Back to trying to figure it out

Thanks..

I have no idea yet.. Still trying to figure all that out. I was gonna try a "nanotube" style chassis, but the trans and stuff is just to bulky. I'll figure something out..

I have another setup up my sleeve, but I want to see how this thing performs before I do that "extensive" of modifications just yet.

I've always wondered why knowone had ever done a narrowed maxx axle 2.2.

Great job

yeah i wondered why no one ever narrowed the maxx stuff too. im still working the kinks out of mine, if i had gone full locked all around the thing would crawl pretty well i think. what did you use for the axle construction material wise?

Used the same as the rest of my axles. Machined out sideplates and brakline..As for making axles, sorry it won't happen. As for the hexes, I haven't even really looked at that yet. Been more worried about what type of chassis to go with

BD- I always wondered the same. I have seen people just slap on some 2.2's, but leave it at full width. As far as I know, I haven't seen anyone narrow them to get within the 2.2 spec for that class. So decided I would give it a shot

i really like how low you have your motor mocked up. being able to fab axles like that will definetely get it narrow as a TLT. i can't imagine full width maxx axles with 2.2's. the width of my maxx was killing me in the super class.

with maxx wheels these end up at 12.5 width. just gotta figure out how to get a shallow offset wheel on it

heres the thread. Front and rear dig crawler.

Microgoat also built a set of 2.2 maxx bits with copper tubing on a scaler.

You could still do a Nanotube style chassis. It would just be a bit bigger to suspend the larger tranny at multiple points.

why not run a second tube along the side to make the chassis sort of a Dshape looking from the top down and drop down a piece of aluminum cut out to fit the tranny... as for the axle tubes i believe they are 3/4 inch. they are just a prototype ill be remaking them with thinner wall tube probably around .040 wall thickness. ill also have a high center version... like twisteds...

how much do the axles weigh dressed ? (diffs axles and knuckles)

umm, 1/2 lb maybe?

As for anyone else making 2.2 maxx axles, I was speaking of actual hybrid maxx axles. not straight axles

PeeJ- I made my axles even narrower so I could use the rims I have. That way I didn't have to shave teh rims and knuckles for them to fit.

well these arent 2.2 but a set is in the works i hadnt originally thought about making them narrower because i was using maxx wheels for mockup, did you come up with a frame design yet?

I'll probably just wrap some tube around it and call it a day

Well here is what I have screwed up so far nevermind the long bolts and zip ties and crap. Just all mocked up and trying to find lower link placement so it does not bind with the DS.. try not to laugh too hard. Just trying something different than the usual thing

Are you going to run shocks? I think that you would need it to counter the torque twist.

Edit: If you mounted both shocks on the opposite side the chassis twists to, it should eliminate the torque twist completely

CC- yes I plan to run shocks. I am still at a toss up though as to run 2 or 4 shocks. I have been messing with this "Stick" I have and trying to figure out which side to mount the shocks on. As of right now, I am thinking of mounting 2 on the drivers side( same side as the shafts). reasoning- I think when I floor the throttle, the motor will want to twist towards the ground. If I put both shocks on the opposite side, it will not allow it to go down since the shocks will already be at full extension. At least that is what I am thinking right now.

I need to get it running first to see what way it will twist.

PJ- I'll slap a body on and get a shot real quick

Edit-Some with a body just set on to see the size of it...The body will come down farther though, when finished. WB as it sits is 12 1/4" and overall width is 11 1/2"

Sorry, don't have a clue as to the weight of it. I need to get a nice digital scale.

I would say a couple of pounds. no more than 3lbs
