Crawler newbie - dunce question!

Hi all,

New here and hoping that you guys will take pity on a poor Mum with no clue about RC/Electronics or anything to do with them!

My son has not long had his TRX4 Defender. It died after about a month of use (ESC wouldn't turn on). I spoke to the supplier and they got us to send the ESC back which turned out to be faulty.

They sent a replacement yesterday which we installed but we're not having any luck getting the truck running again. There are a couple of issues:

a) we're not sure which channel the ESC should be plugged into (failed to take a note when we unplugged it - very stupid I know). anyway, we looked online and thought we'd chosen the right channel - channel 2)
b) when we go through the reprogram steps everything goes fine until we get to the final step where the light should flash one final time before holding down the ESC button for 10 seconds - it just doesn't do that final flash. We've tried a number of times, we've also tried doing that final 10 secs hold just in case ....

What happens is that there is no speed or steering control - the diff locks react when switched so power isn't the issue.

We tried a fix where you hold the speed control on full and all that happened was that smoke came out of the motor after just a few seconds (hope we haven't now blown that...).

Help!!!!!!!

I’m not sure of the answer, but you would be better off posting in the traxxas trx-4 section.

Agreed, but sounds like maybe need to re-bind transmitter to reciever, here's Traxxas Youtube how to. :)

Very cool that a mom is posting here to try to fix her son's TRX-4!

ESC typically goes into channel 2 of the receiver.

Smoke is never good from electronics so I'm afraid your motor might be damaged.
