Default New To Crawler

Just bought a TRX-4 kit and Power Ram body.

First question: See a spool for locking one or both diffs. In the manual it states that most often you would be running in unlocked - is there a way to leave the hubs in an unlocked position without the cable/servo? Does this make sense? If running one diff with a spool, would it be better to be the front or the rear? Thanks.

If you're new to crawling I would advise against messing with the diffs yet, drive it stock for a few months and get a feel for it. Traxxas is pretty wrong, you will spend most of your time with the diffs locked unless you just trail with it (walk with it).

If you plan to do technical crawling (hard stuff) you will absolutely need a locked diff.

When people simplify this truck and its locking diffs they install lockers so its fully locked all the time.

Also try using the TRX4 specific section (I know this forum is confusing) you'll likely get more eyes on your questions. Scale Rigs Brand Specific Tech - Traxxas TRX-4 at RCCrawler.com

But if you really wanted to unlock the diffs permanently (again not recommended) the cables need to stay, servo can be removed and you'd need to zip tie or fasten the cables in the correct position (pushing or pulling I forget which). Another idea, you might be able to just remove the mechanism that slides to lock the diff which would require taking the axles apart.
