| Whats Everyone Running These Days, ESC/Motor Wise?
Hey Guys, The short story is my wife bought me a TRX4 Sport unassembled kit for my Bday. I haven't been "following" or "in" the scene for probably 7-8 years now and it seems that things have changed. Please bear with my "old man" rant. I'm keeping the truck mostly stock, but I will be putting a 2 speed trans in, and a few small mods, overdrive gears, MAYBE weighted portals/aluminum housings on the front, nothing to major. NOT looking to make this into a 10+lb beast. I'm also running a external BEC. Seems like everyone is running brushless nowadays? Last time I built a crawler I put in a Tekin FXR and a 35 turn motor, and thats what I'm aiming for performance wise. The little bit of reading and pricing I've done, a HH BRXL + nice brushed motor (puller/crawlmaster) is the same cost as a brushless system? The only thing holding me back from a FXR combo again is its not available waterproofed, and I would like to go brushless for longer run times. I know its all personal preference, but how do the new brushless setups (Tekin RX4, Castle mamba X mini/ Mamba X, Holmes BLE Pro, or anything else of better quality) compare to the old tried and true brushed motor setups? Have the drag brakes finally become better than the wheel stand on-off switch they used to be on the brushless systems? Or do I just stick with a BRXL, and puller combo and put brushes in every so often? |

HobbyWing Quickrun WP1080 and HolmesHobbies Trailmaster sport 21t 550 motor geared 9/45. Just a tick over $60 for both and some of the smoothest crawling to be had.

Well I think ill split the difference here. I ordered a RX4 ESC, but I think I'm going to try a Holmes 540 puller stubby. Everyone sure seems to love their HH stuff, I think its time I give it a go! Definitely going to get the 9T pinion gear as well. Thanks guys! |

I don’t love the hobby wing stuff. I’d rather have castle, HH or Tekin for an esc and a Holmes motor. I’d like to try some other castle motors but they have not been well stocked in the past year.
