TRX-4 Sport differential binding?

Fresh build of my TRX-4 sport with the locked differentials. How smooth should they be? I spun them as soon as I built them, and they felt a bit stiff, and sometimes would bind when I switched directions. This was before I installed the portal axles part. It was just the differentials.

I've only driven the truck about 4 feet. I think I'll take them apart again and make sure I followed all the directions. I know I used just a very light coating of grease. Any suggestions on what should I look for? I have built one kit before, a loooong time ago. So I'm a newb.

Thanks!

Re: TRX-4 Sport differential binding?

Pull the ring gear off the spool and verify it sits flat by trying to rock it. These axles are usually as smooth as all the bearings will allow. Verify there's no burrs on either the ring gear or spool. Tighten the bolts a little at a time to pull the two together evenly. On mine the bolt holes didn't line up quite perfect and it would've been easy to cince them down one at a time and end up with a bunch of lateral runout on the ring gear.

I pulled them out, and they feel ok. So not sure what I was feeling before.

There is some slop in the drivetrain. I need to compare with another. Each wheel can move about 5mm without moving the driveshafts. I assume slop in the portal. And the connection between the driveshaft and transmission has some play and is noisy. The truck is louder than I thought it would be. 5ime to find another TRX 4 to compare with.

Mount the drive shaft to the pinion but not the trans. With the driveshaft mounted it should put the pinion in the correct spot and it should turn smooth.

If the shaft isn't mounted the pinion can move in and out a little causing it to bind.

The TRX4 is a noisy f**er. So get used to it. :)
