Default Closed Cell Foams for Stock TRX4 1.9 Canyon Trails

Hi All,
First time poster and crawler here. I’ve had my TRX4 defender for a few weeks, and ran it in water without venting the tires and let the tires sit with water in them until I noticed the tires were sagging and finally looked up the prep and post work for water running.

I’ve gotten all the water out but the foams are toast already.

I’m going to run the stock canyon trails for now, I’ve got RClions bead locks coming from Amazon, but I’m having a hard time finding closed cell foam that I can run in water but still crawl fairly decently on varied terrain.

I’ve done some reading and crawler innovations looks like they have the best option for closed cell replacements that might work for my case. I won’t be adding much weight or brass, if any, so my rig will stay in the 7-8 pound range.

Has anyone ran crawler innovation closed cell foams in the stock tires? If so what did you order and how are they holding up? I’m open to other options as well.

Having a blast so far!

Hair buns. It doesn't have to be these exact ones, but I've been using the same set for a year, driven in the rain many times, and they still work great. Show zero signs of break-down.

Any "hair bun" or "hair donut" in the roughly 4.5" size is what you need.

Currently fitted to a 2-speed TRX-4 Sport which weighs just a bit over 7lbs.

Hair buns? No way I don’t believe that haha. They’re so cheap though it’s just crazy enough to try. How’s your sidewalls with these?

They don't "roll" in the sidewall like open cell foams do, at least not in Canyon Trails. I've yet to find a negative, especially at $4 each-- and you can sometimes get very lucky and find the XL/XXL size at one of the dollar stores.

I second the hair donuts option. You can't beat the value for money you get out of them, especially if you run in water. I've been using them for iver a year between my rigs, and only had to replace one set on my super heavy hard body Defender.

This video shows the ones I currently have on one of the rigs. I havent weighted it, but it's on the heavy side.

These are 2.2 wheels, but with 120mm diameter, like the CTs. I fitted some 11cm hair donuts in there. Sidewall support is great like that, but perhaps with some 10cm ones it would grap better on the rocks.

In any case, they are so much cheaper than foams, that are really worth to experiment with.

Ive seen so many tire sizes and they just depend on body and inner fenders
