Question Frame From Scratch

I was reading up on how to make your own tube frame... but how??? i mean how do you make a corresponding frame to an E-maxx?? can someone give me some plans for a rock buggie specced for an E-maxx motor and such?? What im thinking about doing is making a frame and buy things to add on to it, i just need help in how to make the frame and what to buy from ebay and such??

I need:
a list of materials (For the Frame)
Blueprints or something related (For the Frame)
list of what to buy on Ebay (Tranny, motor, Axles(solid or independent), Driveshaft, Servo, transmitter and remote)

Anything I missed to make a RC Crawler?? I got knowledge of tires

I can design you a frame. You mean a frame to fit an emaxx tranny or bolt on a stock emaxx plastic chassis? Shoot me an email.

Pick you're favorite 1:1 buggy ride and follow those lines.

Maxx tranny
Maxx, TF, XF, TXT or any other shafted axles.
REVO sliders for driveshafts.
What's the difference between a transmitter and remote? :?

You do? What tires will you run? Moabs? LST's? BFT's? Kongs? What wheels? What offset? Will you need adapters if you get axles that don't have the correct hex size? Or will you make them?

Can i get an unmolded tire and create a design for them and Sipe(Spelling?) them??

If not, i believe the most effective tire would be the Swamp Dawgs... i just like them and they perform awesome for 1:1's...

but i need help on wheels....

LST's and Moabs will kick the snot out of a swamp dog. besides, you get no extra height out of a swamp dog.

when it comes to building a chassis or even a truck, you either have to search on this forum and get ideas to use or come up with something different. anyway you look at it, you have to use your brain.Roktoy has a good article on building a tuber and that article is on the front page of this site. so search around before clicking that post new thread button.

as Toyo said, just look at a 1:1 buggy or whatever and go from there. it's like building one of those but a smaller scale.

here is a pic of a buggy i just built for a friend. it is a maxx also. if your gonna build a maxx crawler, you would be better off buying the whole truck. so once again as brett has mentioned. buy a maxx, lock the diffs and learn to drive it that way. so far as i have seen, you are just wanting to jump in with both feet and have no clue yet. you need to step back and read/search/ and read some more.

ohh and you won't build a decent crawler for $350 including intial truck purchase. you still need batteries,charger,etc.etc.

here is the pic of dougs truck i just finished

just for now, i would cut on the stock ones and drive on those for a bit, but its whatever you want to do. doug ran his stock maxx around on my BFT's for awhile. the bigger tire doesn't work well with the sucky stock servo. so unless you can afford the bigger servo, i would just hold off

this is where the question about the BB's in the tires come into play, would it be benefitial to put about 5 oz in the front and 3 in the back??

Don't worry about freaking wheel weights yet, you don't even have a truck to drive. Simple as that. Some use them while others don't. I think I'm the only one in the ORCRC group that doesn't use any type of wheel weights in my crawlers. I seem to keep up just fine.

BB's suck..... if you have the need for wheel weights, use the stick on wheel weights. Much better and they won't get tossed around inside the tire to throw the truck off balance. Plus BB's tend to get rusty, then nastyness leaks out of the tires.

Example of the cleaner BB leakage of goo......

You're getting ahead of yourself..... Why can't you take a hacksaw to some small plastic wheels to wack off the outter lips? What's up dude.... If you really want to get into the RC crawlers you WILL need to know how to do some fab work yourself.

Once you get a Maxx or other truck in your hands you'll see how easy it will be to make simple mods to tune in your skills.

Steps....
1. Buy a freaking truck
2. Drive it for a bit stock
3. Lock the diffs and upgrade the servo
4. Come to a competition, a ORCRC or Nor-Cal Comp & see what you're up against
5. Drive more untill your driving skills are better than the truck
6. Begin a rebuild of the whole truck(chassis, 4-link/3-link, tires/wheels, etc..)
7. Become the best damn driver you can.
