i am going to make my chassis out of 2 plates of aluminum. here is a template of what it will be like, what do you think? do you think the chassis is a good size or shoud it be samller or bigger? on both sides i will bolt a maxx chassis brace, i will have to do some trimming on the motor mount. i know i will have to space the chassis out on one side to fit the motor but i'll figure that out. so will this work? please tell me what you think thanks colin

It should be smaller, a lot smaller. Don't be afraid to hang things off of the chassis like the ESC reciever and battery. You should make the chassis as long as the braces you have pictured, then mount the RX and ESC either behind of in front of the tranny. Since maxx axles are so huge, you can mount your battery on the front axle.

wow, that is a lot smaller, i'll make another template and post a pic. i'm not sure about mounting the batt on the front axel, i don't do to much hill climbing, and what would you suggest the links be? just a rought estimate as a starting point. thanks colin

link length is hard to say. you would have to make mounts on the axles and decide on where they will mount to the chassis. i was the original creator of the "chassis brace" chassis idea. so i had it all planned out. of course my idea was meant for a tlt. but we adapted it to a maxx. however eclipse no longer intends on going that route with his maxx.

Much better! Instead of offsetting the plates, just make a cut out for the tranny to sit in. That way your link mounts are the same for both sides of the chassis. check out some other maxx on this site and compare them to what you want to do for your link sizes.

i make the rear top link mounts, so now i'm going to cut out the chassis plates, order rod ends, buy some threaded rod and some thick aluminum tubes for the links and chassis supports. i'll post some pics of the chassis when they are cut out. thanks for the help and any recommendations would be great colin can somebody link me what a good strong cheap rod end, will the traxxas maxx rod ends work? | hey colin, you should try and get this all done by the time you come over on the 15th or whenever. there are some pretty good crawling spots out where we used to play paintball. the chassis design looks good. you should put the receiver and evx on the side plates or in between them at the back. good luck. and if you need i can help you on friday or whenever we hang out this week. peace harris |

well, i started a post about how to make the chassis but now i an building it. here is the older post here so i made the chassis plates, locked out the independend suspention, locked the diffs. here is how i am planning on mounting the shocks (looking at chassis from 3 feet away) (inside view of chassis plate) so will the shock mounts work? the chassis will be about 2 3/8" wide (the stock width of the chassis braces on a maxx truck). i am planning on mounting the battery on the rear axel because there will be no rear stear so i have more room. it will be 15"-16" wheel base and about 4" under chassis clearance. i am using stock maxx rod ends with 6-32 threaded rod with 1/4" tubing over it. all hints, tips, suggestions, dislikes are welcome thanks colin

Merged both your threads. No reason to make a new post about the same truck

The only thing I can see wrong with your build is that everything looks so FRAGILE. The weight of the axles and tires alone seem to be more than what that chassis and links are able to handle. :?

everything that you see that is threaded rod will have 1/4" tubing over it. the chassis will have like 6 braces in it and the tranny will tie everything together. harris

Should be fine. Just in it's current stage it looks awefully thin.

maxx axles are really heavy. i had trouble with my first 3 link because i was used to building for clods and tlt's. other than that you have a really good start on it. your servo mounts might flex some though, you might want to cut some more with thicker stock.
