Default New idea?

I've been off the board and out of the hobbie for about a year and a half now.
So I'm a newbie again.:(

Anyways, I was thinking about doing a solid axle out of my max **** and wanted to it out of pvc(or metal, what every is cheap). The diff would be in two caps and in the middle of the caps would be treaded holes where some threaded tube would be put, then adapt the knuckles to that tube. I'm trying to go for the sealed look.

{|------(0)------|}

Something like that but maybe at a slight angle for better clearance.

Has it been done? Ideals on material and maybe pics of something close if it hasn't been done.

Thanks for your time.
