Default spur gear?

i believe its the spur gear...is that the gear on the slipper clutch right?

anyway, what is the stock gear ( tooth) for that gear? is it 66 or 72?
the guy at the LHS told me 72 and gave me one of those, but taking mine off it says 66 tooth? so if 66 tooth is stock and i put on a 72 will that gear me down or make it faster?

It will gear you down, exactly what you want for crawling.

TFW,,, the stock gear on the E is 72,,, the 66 is stock on the Nitro Rustler and Stampede and the old Nitro Hawk.. On your E,,, put the 12 tooth pinions from Traxxas on and use the 72 tooth Spur... It'll help you out a lot in crawling... Robinson Racing also makes a 9, 10, and 11 tooth pinions you could use..

well i put it on and put the 19 tooth pinions back on since the 72 is much larger and i have the motors adjusted as far out as possible and its just too tight.....so if 72 tooth spur gear is stock, what is the stock pinions?

the stock pinions are 18 tooth... put some smaller ones on it... Traxxas makes 12 tooth ,,, they'll drop your gear ratio enough to crawl ..

TFW,,, I made a mistake if I told you that the 72 was stock on the E... sorry... the stock spur is part # TRA 3166,,,, I work at a hobby shop in Oregon... So,,, it's a 66 tooth spur.. with 18 tooth pinions... I have two E's. .. Both of which are Crawlers... They work really good... I haven't figured out how to put pics out here yet.. I have them on a cd,,,, I'll get it figured out in the not too distant future.. Anyway,, keep the 72 tooth spur and get some 12 tooth pinions.. It'll be fine for now...

ok so its a 66 tooth spur gear and a 18 tooth pinion gear......thanks alot..my LHS said it was a 72 spur and 19 tooth pinion....

so the bigger ya go on spur gear the more low end and the smaller ya go on pinion is also more on low end?

the LHS also told me that if i gear down too low, that the motor will be screaming and i would burn the motor up..is this true? they are more into racing instead of crawling

Thanks alot for the help, appreciate it

yes the lower the pinion the lower the gearing and the high the spur the low the gearing.. they are prbably right about it blowing up if ur runnin wide open with no wind cooling it down for a long time

TFW,, I use the stock motors in both my Maxx's.... I run em all day long and they don't even get a little hot... If you look on the back of the motor,, you'll see little fan blades in the slots... They're there to keep it cool.... I crawl for over five hours every Sunday.. Never had any probs at all.. My ESC never gets hot either.. If you don't push it.. you won't have any probs at all .. Crawlin isn't about speed anyway. Just havin fun with the guys... Seein who can crawl over the biggest rocks.. lol Have fun .. CHS

CHSRacing- How long do your batts last running the 2 motors? Is it considerably longer than a stock Maxx?

On the Maxx based crawler I'm building, I was only going to run 1 motor and a Rebel ESC. I figured twice as much run time since I'll have 2 batts to switch. My reasoning was why run 2 batts and get 15-20 mins of run time if I can run 1 motor and get 30-40 mins of run time? Am I correct to think this?

MM ,,, I use one batt,, and one motor,,, I get almost an hour run time with a stock Titan motor and one 3300 MAH batt,,, I have 5 packs and can crawl for over 5 hours... I use a Super Rooster in one Maxx and a regular Rooster in the other .. ESC doesn't make much difference.. You can run one motor in the stock Maxx.. But,, you have to run two batts.. I talked to Traxxas on the subject ... they said,, the circuitry is set up for 14.4 volts.. Therefore ,, you have to run two batts.. If you change ESC,, then you can run one batt, and one motor.. Whole bunch longer run time.. Have fun... CHS

Oh, I thought you were running the stock Traxxas set-up. I am going to try an older Tekin Rebel that I have. If that doesn't work then I'll look into the Rooster. Thanks for the info.

i agree, it's a good idea for any maxx crawler newbie still running the stock setup with lower gears to take out one motor. It's unnecesary to have both titans in a crawler. I've been running an evx with one titan, 72 tooth spur, and a 9 tooth pinion with no problems as of yet. you loose weight, but most importantly, you loose weight that was high in the chassis.
