Default rear spools and stock shafts

I see some of you guys running your Emaxxs with spools in the rear and still running stock axles. how are you guys doing it? i still have the stock plastic crap in mine and i had to take the spool out cause i break so much..last time i went playing i broke 2 stub axles, 2 inner half shafts and 3 outer half shafts. i even tried to loosen the slipper some but i still break and im just putting around.. i run the BFT tires,70 spur,17 pinion,3000 batteries.i want lower, but the axles can barely handle the low end torque now let alone lower whats the trick???

i want the CVDs' but just cant fork out $45 for the rear and another $45 for the front so i can lock it too but i went and played 2day and didn't break anything with the spool out..man that was nice not to break

I went to a single motor setup. Still has enough torque for crawling, but not as violent acceleration as a two motorset up.

TFW,,,, Are you runnin two motors or one ??? I have spools in both ends... I forked out the money and bought the Dynamite CVD's ... If you're runnin two motors and only one spool... it's goin to raise havok with your drive lines..

I only run one motor and one battery pack... But,, I have a Super Rooster instead of the EVX... So far,,, so good.. Been out the last two days playin... Bein retired... everyday is Saturday ...

Anyway,, take out a motor and you shouldn't have the prob with twistin the drives.. Good luck... CHS

running 2 motors still w/ 1 spool....if i take out 1 motor,i will need to get a different ESC right? so with 1 motor,do you guys have them geared real low to make up for not having the 2nd motor to pull the Emaxx around? i still like to hammer the emaxx around in 2nd gear sometimes but with 1 motor, will i lose my top end real bad running 1 motor and 2 batt.?

There is no perfect solution if you want speed, and a good crawler.
I only crawler with this truck......I use one battery, one motor, 9 tooth pinion, 72 tooth spur and a reversing speed contoller.

I was thinking about this the other day...

When using an Emaxx tranny, could you have two motors mounted with different pinion sizes, but only run one at a time? It doesn't seem like it would matter if only one motor was driving the tranny at a time.

Maybe you could gear one real low for crawling, AND have one geared a little higher for light bashing. Just connect the wires to the motor geared for the terrain you are going to drive on.

i thought about that also, but seems that still having all that weight on there with one motor running with the higher gears wouldn't do too good..guess it just depends on how ya set your gearing up..maybe its time to just have 2 trucks

TFW,,, One motor should work good in your truck.... With the stock ESC,, you'll have to use two batteries... The Traxxas ESC's are programmed to 14.4 volts.. therefore,, you have to use both batts... But,, you can run one motor... If you change ESC's like I did.. you can run one motor and one battery.. I use a Super Rooster in one and a regular Rooster in the other... They're both set up for Crawlin tho... The regular Rooster seems to be workin just fine... It cost 70.00,,, and the Super cost 149.00,..... I run a 9 tooth pinion, and a Losi 76 tooth Spur gear... You have to buy the Stampede spur gear adaptor to run the Losi spur.. drill out the center hole a fuzz,, and drill 3 holes in it to mount it.. It works great.. goes real slow.. If you don't want to buy all that stuff,, you can buy a Robinson 9 tooth pinion and just use your 72 tooth Spur... It'll work fine too... The only thing to remember is.. Spool up both ends... that way you won't have one end workin against the other.. Have fun ... CHS

well if i ran the one battery with stock esc will the motor use both batteries or just run off the one?

if not, could i possibly connect the wires comming from the motor that is not there anymore, into the wires that are on the 1 motor? seems that the ESC would still be running the 14.4 volts, but then just have the wires for the motor(s) connected together. i would like to try and keep 2 batteries on it for run times, but i guess it doesn't matter if i run 2 at a time or 1 then switch again..probably give about same runtime huh?

TFW,,, You can't run one battery with the stock ESC,,, It won't do anything... You can run one motor with it .. but,, not one battery.. If you run only one motor,,, DO NOT HOOK UP THE EXTRA WIRES TO ANYTHING.. Just leave them hang... If you decide to change ESC's ... then you can run one motor and one battery and have longer run time.. Have fun .. CHS

yeah i see i screwed up..i meant to ask if i ran 1 "motor" if it would run off just one battery or both.... with running one motor on yours,do you have your trans locked in 1st gear?

i know people say it takes the slop out,but what is " slop"...is it when your truck is sitting there and the play(slop) it has in the trans where you can roll it back and forth a bit?

Thanks for the help

Bushmaster runs dual spools, stock driveshafts, 70T spur, 11t pinion, 1 MM motor, regular rooster, and (1) 6 cell pack.
No problems. But, it only goes about 3mph. Strictly crawlin This is with stock maxx size tires. Plenty of power with 1 motor if you gear it real low.

In my race Maxx I run open Maximizer diffs, Robinson diff gears, 66t spur, 12t pinions, full cvd's, trans locked in 2nd, (2) 14t singles, (1) 8 cell pack, and a Tekin G9 ESC.
No problems. But then, this one is strictly race

well maybe thats my problem then, i have the slipper as tight as i can get it..also since CHS mentioned only being locked in the rear and it would raise havoc,i will try and lock the front also and see if that helps until i get the CVDs...whats the worse that can happen,"POP!" there goes another half shaft
