Default FJ40 Narrow MAXX project buildup.

Finally started! So I purchased a lot of parts off ebay for $45, the pics is below. Then got a hold of some revo knuckles and a FJ40 body, I had some maxx wheels needing tires laying around and now im getting excited .

Went through all the **** I got and took apart the diffs, suprise! one had a spool already installed! Rebuilt the diff and cleaned all the bearings. Installed the knuckles, and took a look at my width with the narrow version arms. Im wanting to keep it as narrow as possible for a somewhat scale look (almost impossible with maxx arms tho)

Plans:
I have a Jato tranny on the way, along with a single speed conversion. Im going to lock it and build a motor mount. These tranny's are very small and extremely stong, plus I payed less for a brand new one then you would for a pede tranny!!

Might get some maxx swamp dawgs.
I want to stick with a 14" wheelbase as well.
Revo driveshafts should be here tomorow.
Chassis and links? dont know yet

I will be constantly updating this as I make progress, hopefully its not too slow.
Any suggestions are welcome! But please no chit chat because I would like this to be a nice buildup thread.

FINISHED!!!! More pics on page 2

I have been doing some research on the tranny, I found some guys who have mounted brushless motors in there Jato's so the motor mount should be a breeze. Although I may need to put a GD600 on there. Im working on picking one up now. Hopefully the tranny comes today and I can tear it apart when I get home tonight. Thanks for all the interest in the project!

As for tires, I think the XL's are too big for my taste, although I have never seen them in person. Im still debating on alot of things for this project. Stay tuned!

Do you plan on keeping the mechanical brake? That would be very cool!

Worked on the axles some more, I got my revo driveshafts, another spool, and the jato tranny today.

It took some dremel work to make them fit, but it was well worth it, the steering angle, and strength with the revo setup is badass.

Not much of an update on the jato tranny, I didnt get the single speed conversion today so I didnt want to tear it apart. Although I did take apart the slipper assembly and its pretty sweet. Alot nicer than those stupid pegs on the pede and maxx trannys.

Pics!
1st: parts I recieved
2nd: Starting
3rd: Some dremel work
4th: More dremel work on the underside of the upper arms to allow for a steeper angle without the larger dia driveshafts binding.
5th: Allowed arm angle after assembled on the left with the arm modded like pic 4, compared to the binding right side.

Here is the Jato's slipper assembly.
You can also see its compact size.

same slipper set-up as in the REVO. works alot better than the peg deal. when i had my REVO i had to take the slipper apart and scuff the slipper rings with a scrub pad and clean everything with denatuered alcohol. i did this because even tightened all the way it seemed to slip. after cleaning and scuffing it grabbed very quickly and held. much better bite from the system

Not much to update on. I assembled the rear, and did some customizing to fit the TMaxx spur to the Jato tranny, while utilizing the same slipper setup. I had to switch because the Jato gear is a different picth and I will never be able to find a pinion gear that will work. Hopefully tomorow I will lock out the arms, and build a mount for an electric motor to the tranny. Then Monday I start school again and free time goes away :(

Started and built the main parts of the chassis this afternoon. Went pretty smooth, I just need to pick up a 32p pinion to match with the t maxx spur. Its made out of aluminum angle.

Look's great! Hope you don't have any clearance issues with the front driveshaft.

As it is I will have issues, but its nothing I wasnt planning on using a dremmal to take care of, I just wanted to leave it there for bracing options and then see how I want to cut that area out. Suprisingly the chassis is really stiff!

Did some more work tonight! Cut the motor plate for the driveshaft to go through, also added some bracing to it via a tlt servo mount. Made the lower link mounts and fabbed up some links. on with the pics!

I checked the wheelbase and its going to come out to about 18in, maybe 17, is this too long??

Got my tires today, mounted them and did a quick pose, the fj40 body was outside in the shop so the chevy went on there for some pics The links are all done, and the wheelbase is 18in, and im very happy with its width. Now I just need to mount some shocks and solve a little drivshaft problem im having... Let me know what you think!
