Default T-maxx trans ?'s

So I have read about locking the Tmaxx trans into first gear. My question is do I have to buy the forward only kit do this? Also, I was thinking maybe of using this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDUZ0&P=M instead.

Plz advise on what is better to do, stronger, what you have done, etc. I am interested in wheel speed and crawling but want to do trails also. I was thinking of using ONE integy 55t and the single forward speed (link--which is between 1st and 2nd gear ratiowise?), ONE 6cell 3000mah pak and not sure about the GD600 still.

Basically I want to be able to crawl and and still do trails. I am piecing this all together so I want to spend my money wisely.

Thanks.

i thought about going with the single speed conversion before i did my conversion. the deciding factor came down to spending money or doing it for free. i deffinately think it would be stronger. the screws in the mod could possible break or shear off. i haven't heard or read of this but it could happen. the solid gear would obviously be better, but like you mentioned it will change the ratio of the tranny.

you may be able to make the tranny work with out buying the FOC(foward only conversion) my tranny already had the FOC. you will have to mod the reverse somehow to lock it out since your reverse comes from the ESC now. like i said before one gear is deffinately gonna be stronger than a mod with screws or glue or whatever you have to use

with the single speed and the FOC you can eliminate some weight from the tranny as well though (less peices) and it should tighten things up some (no gear slop)

I have the single speed conversion and the reverse lockout kit both in my crawler tranny, the tranny came off my t-maxx when I put a sportmaxx tranny on it, I can definatly say it reduced the slop (which there is more in a stock trnny than you realize), I just realy copleted my crawler but, Im very pleased so far with the gear ratio with a 27t green machine on it

Ya, I DEFINITELY want reverse. Does the ESC just turn the motor backwards if you have forward only? New to this stuff, still learning...

You will still have reverse for crawling via the esc and electric motor. It only gets rid of reverse with a nitro motor, which isn't good for crawling anyway.

another bonus of the forward only kit is the removal of about 1# of rotating mass from the tranny

The motor itself will change directions, not the location of the gears in relation to each other. When it is locked, the gears will spin in the direction the motor spins, so if the motor reverses, the gears will reverse.

thats the part that i understand but how do you reverse say if you were going to use the stock t maxx radio. because with the t maxx you have to flip the switch to get it in reverse, and if thats going to be a rear steer switch how would i go in reverse or could i, thanks for the info. save a horse....... drive a dodge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

save a horse drive a dodge??? cmon now, save a horse and think about it

back on the throttle it goes forward.. forward with the throttle it goes backward. its all in the ESC and motor... which would be on channel 2 of your reciever(RX) channel 1 is front steering and channel 3 is rear steering( your switch)

a nitro doesn't have reverse in the motor, so you need the switch to do so.. an electric one does it in the ESC

yeah but i have not cut any fenders and also have enough room to run 39.5 tires if i wanted to but thats to hard on parts, also i have no shocks in the rear which i thought would be bad (wheel hop) but i have had close to no wheel hop in the rear end and got pretty good flex out of it, close to 4 feet. also i was wondering if you would be interested in building a crawler cage like the blue one you have posted in the gallery and how much it would cost, i just finished one but it was out of 3/16 steel bar and welded, kinda like your green one but sh***er also i think it is to short. let me know thanx chad

Default Back From The Dead

So I have been slowly accumulating parts and am ready to order my 27t motor and gd600, batteries, charger, and other miscellaneous parts.

-----Questions
1. Which 27t is best for the money? Are they all pretty much the same?

2. What is an Estimated run time with 6 - 2500mAH NiMH AA batteries
(Costco has a charger and battery combo for ~$23!! )
-->vs. 6 cell 3000mAH sub C NiMH?? (~$30+cost of a charger )

3. How does the Gd 600 bolt up to the 27t? Should I try a 55t lathe first instead of the 27t and gd600 to see if I like it ok?

The Integy 55t lathe is like $18 compared to $28+13 for the 27t and gd600 .
I am going to use a 9 tooth pinion and not sure which spur gear.

Thanks for the help
