Default Am I in the right direction and some help would be nice. thanks

hey was up people. well im here in iraq and trying to build my first crawler. So far i have got my Krock wheels and tire combo off of someone(the wheels have weights in them for the front). i have the f/r end of the emaxx with the tranny, but no gears. and i have 2 motors but forgot what they are and 2 hi torque and hi speed servos (the servos are Tower Pro SG-5010) has anyone heard of these servos i got them from hong kong directly. i also have 4 revo shafts. and im bidding on a tq pistol radio right now. my question is the motors didnt come with any type of gearing. 1)what would be the best set up for the crawler, also do i need to run both motors or just one? 2) do i need to buy an esc also and which on would be the best? 3) and i am missing a chassis, does anyone have a mantis chassis w/ the f/r steering kit for sale for a reasonable price? thanks you for any help that you can give me.

Most people run a lathe for a Maxx crawler. Another popular option are magnetic mayhems which are used with a gearcase called a GD600 to gear the truck waaay down. I would say the most widely used set-up would be a 55 turn lathe motor with a 72 tooth spur gear and 9 tooth pinion gear.

I don't know about the servo's you mentioned but you want a hi-torque servo, a hitech 645 is a popular one, but there are many options.

Yes you have to have a ESC. From what I've gathered from the site you can't go worng with a Novak, very popular.

PM JeepJunky for pricing on the mantis chasis.

And finally, yes the spool are the same for the f/r and you'll want one in both axles.

Check out the sticky at the top of the page, most of your questions are anwered in there...

Spools are the same for front or rear. Use one lathe with 72/9 gearing or one stock motor/GD600 with a 12t to start. GD600 is a better set up to get lower torque and still have some good wheel speed. Novak or the newer Tekin ESC will work just fine. As for buying a used Mantis chassis, they hold their value pretty good, so I wouldn't expect to find one for too cheap. Besides, you can't beat $160 for the whole kit, it's almost a complete truck if you think about it. Email me and I'll help you out with the shipping if that is the problem.

Thanks,
Randy
