I have a Emaxx that I am turning into a crawler and I need to know what pitch the stock gears are? I have noticed alot of people are using Robinson gears 9 pinion and 70 spur, is this a good low torque gear ratio. I went on the web site and I can only find that low pinion size in a 32 pitch, is that right? If I buy the new spur will I have to by a new slipper plate and so on? I am kinda new to all of this and I have alot of questions so please bare with me. What else will I need to complete the gear swap, I have already bought spools to lock the rear and front diffs? Whats next???? Thanks, Glenn

im not that low yet, but after the build of the tube chassis i will be on my tube rig, i will be running a 9 tooth pinion, 72 tooth spur gear( i believe it is CHSracing that said you can run a 76 tooth spur gear but need some type of an adapter or something),and i will be getting the 3.8:1 reduction unit. mine will also be running the stock EVX with only 1 battery( thanks to RCracer) and 1 motor, locked front and rear with 4ws..so hopefully the way mine will be setup can give ya some ideas of what can be done with the Maxx..also, get ahold of "Jason" on this board. like Pete said,he knows how to make a great maxx crawler but anything else he aint worth nothing

If I go with the robinson spur then I will have to get the dual slipper right becuase that is all they sell.

you talking about something like this? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXBJB6&P=7 no need to get all of that, just get the spur gear. also you could get the friction pegs. some people use them and others don't..i don't use them since i have my slipper all the way tight

Yea thats it, if I went with a set up like that then I would need a larger pinion, maybe a 11 tooth right? I do not want to cut or modify the plate to try to get a 9 tooth to work. I am a newbie at this too and it sounds like were doing to same project, we need to keep in touch and compare mods. So far I have put in the spools on the front and rear and now I am changing the gearing. I have heard alot of bad things about using the one motor setup (overheating with dual batteries) and I afraid of frying my Novak so I am still lost on what to do there. As for now that is all have decided on right now. Shadow

What do you think about putting 12/72 gearing, with a reduction of 47.30 do you think it will be low enough?

yes they sell just the spur gear..as for the gearing i am running a 14/72 right now and it is nowhere near slow enough. couldnt really tell ya on the reduction unit since i haven't used one before. its just really all trial and error..get a combo that you think will be good and try that.then you can adjust from there. i have pinions and spur gears all over the place here btw- where are you getting a 47.30 reduction unit? all i have seen are the 3.3 and 3.8 units that bolt on..with others you need to do some modifications to get them to work http://www.icare-rc.com/gearboxes.htm MJ8053 Planetary Gearbox for SPEED 500/600 3.33:1 $22.90 MJ8063 Planetary Gearbox for SPEED 500/600 3.8:1 $22.90

Shadow,,,, You can get a stock 72 tooth spur gear and a Robinson 9 tooth pinion, it will work great... And,, your gear cover should bolt right on....

TFW,,, Tower Hobbies has a gear reduction,, it's called a GD600,, it's supposed to be a bolt on deal.. I don't know for sure yet .. haven't got mine.. :( I think all you have to do is drill out the pinion to 4mm... and you're on your way.. That's what they tell me anyway..

CHS- is this what you were talking about? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXSL79&P=7 i thought those were the ones that they said you needed to modify a bit to get to work :? besides those say they are a 2.5:1 ration and the ones i posted above were a 3.3 and a 3.8:1 ratio

Ahyone tried a 9/76 combo from RRP? http://www.robinsonracing.com/catalog/catalog.html A little expensive at over $30 for parts + pinions, but seems to be the lowest you can get on the pinion/spur combos. I might try this and a pair of 3.8:1 boxes.

TFW,,, ahhh ok... well they offer them in 3 different ratios... including the 3.8 ... A couple guys I crawl with have them.. and they bolted right on their E Maxx motor plate.. They just had to drill out the pinion gear to 4 mm.. I guess you have to buy the pinions seperate to get the 3.8 to 1... Sorry.. Anyway bud,, I'll let you know how mine works when I get it .. til then... Have fun ..

CHS- yeah let us know how it goes, you will probably get yours done before mine maybe 4xadict was asking the same thing, but has anyone ever used 2- 3.8:1 boxes back to back? maybe thats just a little too stupid low but was just wondering..maybe i'll get the 1 working first and see how it goes

the smaller you go on your pinion the slower it will go ( lose top end) and the bigger you make your spur gear, the slower it will go..so yes 9/72 would be slower than 9/70 and a 9/76 would be lower than both of them | |
