I'm thinkin about running rear steering on my Maxx crawler, but I've already spent a lot more than I planned to build this thing. Will a stock Traxxas servo be enough for rear steering? This isn't a comp rig, just a crawler for showing up my friends with Nylints on random rock courses we'll make. I'll be running Moabs if that makes a difference. Will the stock servo from either a T-Maxx or a Rustler/Stampede cut it?

I hate to say it, but NO it will not. That servo is rated for 80oz of torque. That servo may work for 2.2 sized tires, but not anything bigger. If you have 2 different servos, put the bigger one in the back. You will notice that if you do not have a big enough servo back there, you will try to climb something or get into a bind and the tires go wherever they want to go. You will have no control over them. People say Hitec 645's, but they move all around on me also. I run Airtronics 359's and will never run another servo besides that one.

I have a hi-torque servo my dad bought a few years ago for his RC10GT that didn't like to turn with the stocker....can't remember what model it is though. Hopefully that'll get the job done for me. Seems that most of the servos that get recommended on here are in the $100 range, and there's no way I'm gonna spend that much for one. I may even just run front steering if there's no way a stock servo will work out back. Having trouble turning the tires is one thing, but the tires going wherever they want is a problem I don't feel like having.

well I was in the same boat as you. I swore I would never blow $100 on a servo either, but decided to take the plunge one time. I haven't looked back and I am about to buy 2 more of the 359's for my other truck.

Get a CS80 man; $29.95 and 343oz. Plus it'll add a little weight back there on those rear tires. I don't know why more people don't run these on Maxx's, there's plenty of room. I'm running one on the front and am now adding one on the back for my RS that I'm adding...

Ran- if there is plenty of room, post up some pics please. I had a CS-80 in my hands a couple years ago and it was just too big

Are Hitec HS-605MG decent? I've got one sitting here....says dual ball bearing and metal gear, so that's a good sign. I'm gonna try running it either way since it doesn't cost anything, but it'd be nice to hear experience with em.

Do a search on tower hobbies for servo's then just look at the spec's find a cheap azz, servo they rates 150 or better on the voltage you run, and there's your servo. There's a good thread on this one towerprg mg995: TowerPrg MG995
