Default Black Widow project done

If you haven't seen the buildup post at all, yo can go here http://www.rccrawler.com/postt484.html and see the buildup

for the most part she is done. im still have trouble with it running. The system seems to not have enough juice running through it to run the 4ws and all. everything just seems real slow and when the rear steer gets in a bind,it acts like you unplug the battery.i am gonna try a reciever pack and see if it helps( i hope) i really don't have much torque/power with a single Titan, so i may try another motor. but like i said, for the most part, it's finally done

thanks guys

I am quite happy with the BFT tires for this rig..i thought about the Kongs but they are just to big and heavy for my tastes right now. i may try and narrow a set like Pete did for my next project( that will start as soon as i figure out the juice situation )

That looks sweet!

I just got me a E MAXX. It's a blast to play with stock. I wouldn't mind doing something simular as you.

Would you have some close up's of how you made the IFS into a solid axle? That's one thing I'm curious about.

Thanks

Great looking project!! I like the scale look of everything, and those BFT tires set if off nicely. I've seen a few rigs with converted Maxx suspension, convinced me to try my own! I bought the steel tube, silver solder, torch, etc for making a tube frame. Where did you find the square tube? Or maybe it's bar stock? Looks like steel, or maybe even stainless in the pics. Thanx for the pics, great work! Vince

well i think i figured out the main problem-i just went out and ran it and was trying to use a 7.2 reciver battery like the other post, but the light on the EVX kept blinking :? ..i found out that my rig cannot run only on one battery..i plugged the 2nd battery that was intended for the RX into the EVX and all of a sudden it came alive..i finally had power back..i now have the power back to bump over stuff..with the gearing i have 72/12 it should be somewhat quick but before you would have thought i had a reduction unit on it..top speed was about 2mph. with no power to do anything. so now i need to find out how to put 2 batteries back on to it, but the one motor still does good, except for that i just burnt it up..i thought i had been smelling something for the past couple times and smoke finally started to roll out of it and melted the internal fan.

Mine melted the internal fan too, and I only had been using it for 6 months.

Looks really good! Too bad you diddnt have it running when I was there!

I might have to borrow that welder from you and build something better for my clod. Can you weld aluminum with your welder?

That is one saweet rig! One question tho, what are the chances of seeing some blueprints and or better close ups of the mods for a solid axle and maybe the chassis too?

did you look at the link above that i posted? that has some pics of the buildup..anything certain thing your looking for? if so, i can try and get a pic of that for ya. but as for blueprints my blueprints were a bunch of straws taped together to get an idea of what it would look like. then i just started bending and cutting( kinda like i do with my 1:1 crawler)

adam, nope that one doesn't do alum. since i have no gas....the new welder im getting does though

yup ive bin lookin at ur crawler for a few hours now... tryin to get mental ideas for how to do my Tmaxx, my head hurts now too, lol. where i live i have sum nice hills that get steep towards the top, so i like to build a hill climber/crawler. my problem is, should i make solid axles like u or stay with the stock suspension and try to make it better some how. also i have a few other buddies with tmaxxes and we go racing, so i like to be able to do everything with one truck if possible too. i got too many things to do and not enough to do it with :/ As my truck sits, its a good hill climber, the .21 mill in it has enough to get it to the top, but it lacks in the goin over a rock concept.

well it is hard to have the best of both worlds. since it sounds like you mainly do hillclimbs and racing, you mainly need the speed.that is where the IFS will be best. so i would just stick with the IFS and try to make that work. you can always gear down on your clutch bell still to a 16 tooth or 18t, but when long hillclimbs are there, you will stay in 2nd gear. also, when changing spur gears, you need to re-adjust your trans shifting point( you can read that in the manual) but thats easy and another advantage to having a lower clutch bell than your buddies, you can get around corners quicker it's up to you if you want to lock the diffs. it will be great when bashing around and climbing, but you will sacrifice some steering. so just get a bigger servo( i have a airtronics 200oz in my front and it does great) and that should help..also, if you do lock it, make sure you do front and rear together..just doing the rear and you will start to hate it..my Tmaxx was rear only and i snapped so many axles, stub axles, etc all the time it wasn't funny. also on hills, i couldn't keep it straight, the locker would push it either one way or the other but never straight. so i took it out until i could lock the front..anyway,enough rambling

If you want the most intregal of both worlds, then you will need 2 diffrent trucks for crawling/climbing and racing. But if you so desire to only use one truck then leave it IS. just do the thing kevin did.
