Default The Gins Shoe

Geines look better but Gins are cooler.

anyway i kind of got that name from the way it turned out looking. just figured i'ld share a few pics.

layout out a plan and made some cuts:

anybody else use the board trick for bending tube? pretty slick...

burned up a base;

topped it off and added a belly pan. total hieght just over 5";

since i had a maxx tranny laying around that's what i'm using. instead of locking it into 1st gear i decided to buy the gears to make it a sinlge speed tranny. like the one found in the original Sportmaxx trucks (F.O.C., 28/41 gear, 19t gear). gave me a 2.3 ratio. need a GD600 right? got to mount it right? here's what i came up with

axles and a quick mock up;

think my electronics are coming from Holmes or the CrawlerStore. would really like to put a revolver in it but not sure i can afford that. i have a while before it's ready for a motor though so ya never know

need a half inch added to the links on the front (shock slant backwards), spools for the diffs, and front dig setup, and a mounting plate for the electronics

what do ya think body panels or not?

Maybe just a panel to cover bottom of tranny.

For the shock mounts, is that just some cut to shape metal and welded in place?

Thats some crazy bends, but finished product looks great.

That looks Awesome. I started to make a Jig when I built my last chassis, but gave up and built it all by eye.

the shock mounts are just metal cut to shape. i used 16 guage steel plate then cut and grinded till they fit. i then work out some square lines on my bench and set the chassis to them. then i set the chassis flat on the table and made my measurements for the holes, and drilled them out after.
if you mean the very bottom of the tranny it will get the belly pan i just haven't mounted it up yet. i was also thinking maybe using some very thin guage steel (22 i think it is) and wrapping just the lower sides and front sections right in front to help protect the cockpit

because of the loops i didn't dare to try and eyeball them. this way i was better garuanteed not to waist 2 or 3 tubes trying to get it right

THANX for looking guys

Looks great raptor . I like the gd6oo mount and the very original frame.

If you want to run in comps you will need body panels.
2007 Usrcca Rules Comittee Updates

I would build them anyway, I think tubers look better with some sort of body to them.

Thanx for the compliments. i haven't got much done to it lately. did get the front servo mount made and the axles cleaned and painted. will get some pics up tonight.
i would have the links all done but i thought i was gonna be 4 rod ends short, then found some in one of my bins. now i can finish them up this evening. need to pic up some thin sheet metal for the panels too. that will probably be this weekend. then after i cut them everything can be painted up.

what do you think?

some of the panels look carbon from the outside, but they're not. i used 22 guage sheet steel and had a sheet of carbon sticker left over from another project. kind of like the look, i think i'll be picking up some more.

I really like those panels! The wb looks to be a hair under 17 Toph.

You might have some troubles with the ballends binding. Your lower link mounts are horizontal and it can screw up articulation at those angles. I would also recommend lowering your ride height, maybe setting the shocks up for some droop travel at the same time.

yep wheel base is right around 16.5".

you know, when i finally finished my aluminum links and had it set the way (i thought) i wanted it, i was noticing some of the binding your mentioning. my thought was maybe the rod ends were mounted too close together, didn't really think of the direction they're mounted in. have to check into that too. may have to move the link mounts.

i haven't messed at all with the suspension yet. need to get the electronics in it so i know what kind of weight i'm dealing with
