yes they make a waterproof ESC that is just like the EVX. i can't think of the name of the company right now ( went braindead), i'll see if i can find it though.. sounds like the EVX is screwed. mine does the same thing. runs fine for a min or so and then just plain acts retarded. i'm just gonna send mine back to traxxas since it only costs $20 to get fixed

well if you have been through the water with it and that's the cause, i would take it apart( if possible-not sure) and make sure its all dried out. also, as long as the wires still look stock it will be good...you send them a MO for $20 inside the box you send along with a note in it making sure you put a return name and addy for it. i called traxxas not too long ago about mine and they told me to send it in. call traxxas up and tell them it just started screwing up, and they will tell you what to do..also, if your playing in water, your reciever could have gotten wet also. my buddy had his reciever get wet and it started acting real stupid and finally just took a crap..but call traxxas and talk to them..if the problem was due to water though, just leave out that detail

if your gonna run 1 battery, i would suggest using a different motor. the Titan will run at half speed with only 1 battery ( 7.2 volts) and not 2( 14.4) been there, done that takes about 2 weeks to get back from traxxas
