Default Clutch Issues......

Any one out there having problems with the stock clutch on the emaxx trannys? I have tightened the *&^%*& out of mine and it still slips like crazy the second I get onto rocks. Is there an aftermarket setup out there that will get it to hook up better or just eliminate the stlipper all together? As for the truck I am running a rcrockgear setup with locked axles and a 3.7:1 ish reduction between my mag mayhem and the tranny to a 14tooth pinion to a 72tooth spur, its geared LOW. I am also running jumbo kongs. Any help or tips would be nice...
Oh yah off topic I remember in a post a long time back toyofast was going to show pics of how he reduced the slop in his emaxx tranny while still being able to use both gears anyone have a link to that thread I searched and couldn't find it.

Are you running 12 slipper pegs?

Do the slipper pegs need replacement?

Mine works fine with the 12pegs. Wouldn't run the truck without it.

Be aware though that with all that gear reduction to the spur gear you are feeding a lot of torque thru it.

i dont run any pegs in mine and i have it as tight as possible. the only time it will slip is if i'm in a real bad bind.I have not had any problems with mine at all. Besides, i just hate trying to get those stupid pegs in the holes

I am running (dont know how many pegs there were) but it was the standard traxxas emaxx stuff. The pegs are brand new they sliped the second run (the first run was on flat ground). When you run the clutch without the pegs did the little alignment peg on the metal disks tear into the spur gear at all??!! I was thinking of doing that but then thought it might just act as a saw and cut the gear in half eventually.

I run mine with some double sided tape on either side of the spur gear. I don't expect the tape to hold it together, but when you tightened the slipper down, the tape compresses and acts like a slipper peg with a much bigger contact area.

Or you can drill a hole through everything and run a screw through it.

92yota- thanks anyway, but i like my slipper to slip. it prevents me from breaking stuff in a real bad bind. if i wanted it solid, i would just hot glue or superglue it

I think i'd have to agree with Twisted.......when you run that much torque through a drivetrain, and it get in a bind, somethings gotta give!!!!! I'd rather spend 10 min. replacing slipper pegs than an hour tearing apart the tranny or worse......the diffs!!!!

Very true. That is the only thing holding me back. I come from a clod though. That and I tend to run the truck very easy (no one down here in SOCAL seems to be able to put together a meet) I think I will try the electrical tape idea first.

Well I went and bought that part today. Finaly decided to stop waisting my time with it. My time wasnt worth the $3.00 part. I guess I will find the weak point in my drive train, if there is one. But The way I drive it should last forever so Im not worried. I just want to say thanks again to everyone for the input and in the end solving a problem that has had the truck on the shelf for about a month and a half with me just being mad at it....
