looks allright. you could probly mount the battery down a little lower in the front, and is it going to have enouph gearing with out a gear reduction?

looking good.. did JK put duct tape on your front driveshaft? on the reduction- I got my GD600 from Towerhobbies and i run an 18t on the motor( it comes with the gd600) and i ran my 9 tooth pinion on the reduction unit to the spur gear. it has tons of torque..i run a 27t johnson motor. i would suggest a 12 tooth pinion instead as it would be a little better in the wheelspeed. i will change mine to that once i get one. also, if you do decide to get a GD600, shoot for a reversed Magnetic Mayham motor or a motor that can be set to 0 degree timing.. the GD600 reverses it all so you either need a reversed motor to run the right way or flip the wires on your motor also, if you run a 600, you DO NOT have to make the holes in the motor plate on the tranny any bigger. instead, there is plastic on reduction that you can just shave it off and have a flush fit. the bearing does not go through that part, so no need to worry about that

it should JK helped build it BTW matt- i seen your other post in the electrical forum...if you do get a lathe, there really is no need for a reduction as it is slow with just the motor... but you can do both.. if you do both, you will need to gear higher i also run a 72 t spur gear

ya i cant thank JK enough for giving me the idea of this project, this is just my modofied version of his roach. i did all of the fabbing myself in only 2 weeks so i am going to run a GD-600 with 18t pinion on a reverse mag mayhem and a 12t pinion on the end of the GD-600 where it connects to the 72 tooth spur...... does that sound right? the duct tape on the driveshaft is.........holding it together because both sided are tapped and a screw holds it together.....but not in reverse.... that is where the duct tape and super glue comes in

yes sounds good...the GD600 comes with a 48pitch gear ( which is the 18 tooth)..you will need to have the end of the GD600 turned down..either JK could help or mat and adam or whoever has a lathe.. i did mine very slowly with a dremel.its not perfect, but its close. i used a dial meter( what i use to set backlash in truck gears) to help me see where it was high and low... but try that gearing first, if its still too slow for you, jump to a 14 tooth instead of the 12 tooth... just remember, the GD600 uses 48 pitch gearing. so you will use the one that comes with it on the motor. then you can use 32 pitch gearing on the spur and 12t pinion. | |
