Default 4ws

Does anyone here know how to do it without buying the 100 dollar kit? Maybe if someone had there own kit that they built that they could make me one and sell it for cheaper.

I know that some of the guys on the Traxxas site have done it. I beleive they used all stock parts.

Try searching http://monster.traxxas.com/index.php...e9e45f061f589a

Hi Maxx,,,

I just finished a 4 wheel steer E-Maxx.... Works quite well... I'll have some pics out here tomorrow or the next day... It's built with all stock parts off the wall,,, except ,,, the chassis,,, I built it from 1/8th inch aluminum plate... It's 2 inches longer than stock.. It took me two evenings and my trusty jig saw with a metal cutting blade in it .. Anyway,, I'll have pics in the next couple days...

where is the $100 kit at Zilla? i haven't seen it

also( sorry to hijack) but when using the stock TQ3 radio,is there anyway to have the steering independant or do you have to go out and just buy a Y connector and have the wheels turn together?

nevermind, i seen over at rcrad they had a kit

I just finished up the rear steer on my E Maxx.I will take a couple pics when I get home.I made a servo bracket that mounts the servo in the same position as the Rad RC kit.It works great but,my only problem is the rear servo is turning the same direction as the front.Switching wires around at the rear servo does not reverse operation as I was shown in my searches.

Anyone know how to switch servo rotation without the Rad RC harness?

Here is another shot of it.The servo I used is a Futaba unit.
Its at least 12+ years old and it works better than the front one.

i also setup a 4ws that seems to be similiar to this one:

but i have problems with the tires pointing in different directions when they are at different points of the vertical wheel travel. it's mostly a problem with the height of the attachment points, to low. it looks like rcrocks is at the same spot as mine, probably has the same problems.

i have also setup steering like this:

the wheels keep better alignment with this method. i'd be interested in seeing some other 4ws setup for the max though. i haven't been fully satisfied with either of these setups. also, does anyone have the link to the place that makes the $100 steering kit?????

thank you, looks like you could buy the spare parts kit for $40 and be most of the way complete except for links. and you can use widemaxx links on a non widemaxx truck for this type of steering setup, thats what i have on mine

Here is another pic.The servo was mounted much lower and it was causing steering problems when cycling the suspension.I raised it up so that the tierods are paralell to the arms to fix it.

cool deal frizzle, thanks for the pic.. i got the template done for the bracket and will cut it out tomorrow, but still trying to figure out what to use for the other part of it( the part that the servo screws to) did you just use a square piece of plastic or something and have it screwed to the bracket then?

i thought about just using some metal and just tack welding on those pieces, but i would like to keep it somewhat adjustable if i need it to be..

Thanks again for the pic

They are just square pieces of plastic from the steering servo mount off of my old Grasshopper 2.Using metal and welding them to the bracket would be cool.Just make sure the steering links are paralell to the arms (when looking at them from the rear) to get the best steering opperation through out the wheel travel Leaving it adjustable is good.I drilled quite a few holes moving stuff around to get things just right.

are any of you guys running spools in the rear with rear steer?? i break enough rear end parts as it is without rear steer. i would think it would put a lot more stress on it.

well thats like the hardcore guys running with the front locked also..anytime you lock something, it will add to the stress.i haven't broke anything while "crawling" with a spool in the rear, but as soon as i hit the throttle and floor it to climb a hill(run around like a nut) "snap" i done broke something

that's why you put air lockers in it,so you can turn them on and off when ya want

thanks for the help and advice frizzle, much appreciated

I have a spool and CV shafts in the rear. The only thing I have broken out back since upgrading the shafts are the 4 screws that hold the gear to the spool. They just sorta sheered off No damage though,I just replaced them and I was back in business.

Hmmm....an ARB for RC trucks. That would be sweet!Run it off of a CO2 cartridge from a pellet gun

Post up some pics when yer done Toyotafourwheeln
