Default 4 wheel steer

well, a search turned up nothing of value, so here i be

i know alot of crawlers get the 4 wheel steer treatment, and ive heard mixed opinions about it. some people think its not a truck until it can turn around in a shoebox, others think its a waste of time.

so, those of you that hardcore crawlers, is the 4 wheel steer really worth it?

if so, how is it done? i havnt found anything on this site about how to do it yet.

thx

1) Add a servo to the rear, hook up link(s).
2) Plug that rear servo into your open 3rd channel on your reciever.
3) Indepently operate that rear servo via your thrid channel on your radio.

I've ran mostly with only 2WS.. no problems keeping up or giving a heated battle at the Comps. BUT with my new rig that runs Kongs and a long wheelbase I need 4WS just to fit into places. I'm all for 4WS but if your wallet doesn't allow it then just get really good at driving your rig with 2WS.

so... youre saying that the emaxx is already set up for 4ws, but its not utilized? or were you just giving a brief over view?

Well... It was more a brief over view of it. I think the Maxx is pretty much setup to do it. Can't you adjust the toe-in & toe-out on the rear via tie-rods?

I'm not really familiar with stock Maxx setups...but this Maxx that has crawled with us in the past runs 4WS and look like more or less stock locations to mount servos.

toyo- that is because that Emaxx has had a surgery someone has cut the chassis in half and put the front section of another Maxx chassis to it. another way to do it, you have to remove the rear bumper and brace between your bulkheads. then fabricate a servo mount for it to fit in there. i had 4ws on my Maxx, but it is no longer there. it helped out, but seemed more of a pain than it was worth. as of right now, im only 2ws but my next tube project mey be 4ws independent.

2coolrc.com makes something for four wheel steer, but not independant, i like the idea from but i think its a waste of money cuz the only thing i would use is the bracket and tie rods

other than that i think 4 wheel steer should be used on more trucks, seems like it would work

I did 4ws using the stock front set up in the rear. I made the chassis, so I don't know if it will work with a stock emaxx, but it is an easy way to go if it will.

Hi!

HereŽs my solution about the 4-ws-problem:

http://www.manuel-aka-mdk.net/gallery/E-Maxx?page=13

Page 13 shows my E-maxx screwed off in pieces and page 14 the start of the modding and re-mounting. IŽm simply using 2 front-ends of the chassis-plate with two complete steerings, both products of Proline...

What do you think about it?

Manuel

not sure if this applies to all, but the EVX doesn't seem to be able to handle the current draw from both servos. the tires like to lock in postion and dog down when in a bind. i think the BEC current for the EVX is like 1.0 or 1.5.. that is pretty weak. i just bought a Super rooster and the BEC on it is 3.0 so that should handle the 2 servos now just a heads up

Hi!

I know! IŽll build an external BEC with a Motorola 78C05CT. This thing delivers 5V and a current above 3 amps. Its thermal stabalized and short circuit resistant. ItŽll use the drive cells so I donŽt need an extra battery...

But more later. DHL has to deliver finally the front bulkheads so I can finish my Crawl-Maxx...

Manuel

PS: IŽll use a Sanwa VG400, a 4-channel stick transmitter. Yes iŽll be able to steer front and rear axle seperately...
