sorry i didnt mean to do that face it didnt think it meant what you think it is and sorry if it was a bad thing to make it a stick y but i thought it would be good to have a tutorial in here since to make a maxx a crawler you have too lock the tranny into 1st .

Only mods have the ability to make something a sticky, by typing "sticky" in front of the name you really didn't do anything. Just take the tranny apart, pull the shift forks out, and glue the first and second gears together. It's been a long time since I did mine and I don't have any pics.

but here is a crash course in it real quick if your in a hurry take the trans apart... you will see the shifting fork in between 1st and 2nd gear. the part that is in the middle is what you would glue/screw together with the 1st gear ( the bigger of the 2 gears) I have done both( screwed and glued also, you can take out 2nd gear and other internal parts, but you need to make spacers and such to keep the internals in the right place. the writeup im doing just keeps everything but the shifting fork in there..just doing one that is the easiest and quickest way.

with just leaving it shifted into first is no big deal, you still have all the slop in the tranny. when you go in and actually lock it, it takes that slop away

exactly!!!!!!!! you can take out the 2nd gear, but then you would need to make some sort of spacer to take up the place of the missing gear.. its a heck of alot easier to just do it as you mentioned.. just glue that top one to the 1st gear, then take out the shift fork. My last one I glued and screwed together

will it really make a difference to glue the gears? i just used a rubber band to lock it in first. that way you don't have to take the tranny apart. or is it worth it to glue the gears? thanks colin

From what I've read the advantage of glueing the gear is it gets rid of the slop in the tranny.

the advantage is just that- to get the slop out.. when you stop, the truck stops.. it doesn't roll another foot or so after you stop. it gives you better control. a rubber band gives and isn't as precise
