So it won't shift if you move the shift rod into second gear by hand?

If the shift rod is absolutley stuck then I'd say you have to pull the trans and carefully take it apart. Never heard of this problem. If its that bad then the problem will be very obvious when it's pulled apart. Usually it's just a stock servo that's stripped and won't turn. I know there's a ball and spring that seats into the shift shaft in a groove. To ease shifting in mine I removed a couple loops of the spring. Be careful not to lose anything in the process and to put it back together right.

I've got the transmission pulled and I'm looking at the gears inside what should I be looking for. Also before I took apart the tranny I did lose off the ball and spring inside the tranny, how tight should you make the grub screw that holds the ball and spring ? I also know that my servo isn't stripped noir binding with anything.

It's really been at least a year and a half since I did this. But I'd say just loosen the. Grub and keep moving the shaft between gears until it lightly locks and easily disengages by hand. The stock shift servo is pretty light duty. Once it's in gear by the servo it's pretty secure until you shift.
