Question new Summit reverse problem

I am a rc car beginner, I got a new Summit today (well, claimed by the LHS it's new, but more like display model or older model, since the model number is 5607, not the latest 56076 listed on official Traxxas website).

Anyway, it seems has some problem and I'd like to find out how I can fix it.

It drives forward, no problem, release the throttle, brakes and stop, no problem, immediately after sit fully stops, throttle reverse, it will not move. Release throttle, reverse again and release; it will go reversed after 2nd or even 3rd try. Why is this?

Thanks for you help.

That is normal. If you pull the trigger to move forward, then push trigger the first push is the brakes. Then after it stops, the next push of the trigger is reverse. That's a safety feature to protect the transmission. Normal RC car ESC's are forward/brake/reverse but you can get rock crawler specific ESC's that are forward/reverse only, no brake. They are useful in crawling on steep uphill sections so you can quickly hit reverse and save your rig from flipping over backwards

You might try to recalibrate. As was said before, the speed control brakes first, then will reverse after you let off the brakes. If the calibration is off a little, it might not be seeing the brake fully released before you try to reverse.
