Default CI unboxes the TRX4 by Traxxas

Traxxas has finally decided to enter the RC Rock Crawling market and there is a lot of excitement around their new release. Crawler Innovations was allowed to do the unboxing of the new Traxxas TRX4 display model for the local Hobbytown USA in Tyler, TX. Traxxas sent this single unit for display and demonstration only. The customer units should start arriving next week. Once those arrive, Crawler Innovations will be picking up our TRX4 and heading to the CI rock piles ASAP for testing and filming. This video covers the unboxing, the drive train and chassis, and some of the body.

Loved the close up look out of the box, is that a hobby shop/library? Ha. Felt like you were talking in hushed tones to keep anyone else around from realizing what you had over there lol. Still glad I preordered it , didn't realize it was 1.9 and came with steel cvds and had metal steering links.

Thank you for the kind words on the video. I had so many questions about this crawler and have been trying to secure one since they were announced. I was super curious to see what traxxas was going to release for several reasons.
1. an RCC Forum member is an engineer there
2. the portal axles with selectable locking diffs
3. the two speed transmission
4. traxxas durability
5. what size where the rims and tires really going to be?

I am thoroughly impressed and can't wait to get mine and get it on the rocks.

I am editing a 2nd video and plan to upload it tomorrow. The 2nd video has more detail of the body, the weight of the body, the weight of the crawler, and driving it on the hobby shop floor.

All of the links are metal of some kind. Traxxas also designed some new angled and offset rod ends for the links which I know will transfer over to custom builds.

The shocks felt nice, cycled smoothly, and look to be a good diameter that hold enough oil to function properly.

Off set pumpkin on the front axle:

Centered diff on the rear axle:

1.9 rims
Tires are listed as 4.60 X 1.9
The rubber tire compound felt good. It did not have the plastic RTR feel at all.

This video covers the TRX4 scaled out body, the weight of the vehicle, how the transmitter and shift servos function, the turning radius under unlocked and locked conditions, and some driving footage on the hobby shop carpet. The battery used for testing is a Traxxas 5800Mah, 2S Lipo battery. I apologize for the poor audio at the end of this clip. The camera microphone was picking up the radio signal from the transmitter to rc car receiver and that is the cause of the noise.

Can't wait to see what sorts of upgrades and customizations people put into this thing. Also I wonder if any parts will be useful on the classic scale rigs. I agree great job getting us this info and details!

I'm thinking that it should be as simple as switch plugs at the Rx so that you could lock the rear axle first, then the front if that's the way you want to do it.

Just seeing a quick glance at that assembly manual, Traxxas has provided us with a ton of new parts to be used in Frankenstein ways !

some of the scale guys want it, but how many comp guys want just the axles? lot of good/ cool stuff on this rig. it would be cool to see someone slap this body on a class 1 rig for sure. tire/ body size would be perfect.

I know I want just the axles. anybody else? cant wait till the support parts come flying in.

It is I did that exact thing to my summit. You can even mod the switch so you can lock them individually.
