Default Stock TRX4 Servo specs

Has anyone been able to measure the specs of the stock weak servo in the TRX. I got tired of constantly seeing my servo reach its max torque and want to look for a upgrade. How much is a decent amount of torque to have as a steering servo?

The issue is finding an affordable, waterproof unit IME. I am running 278oz/in @ 6v and 320oz/in @ 7.4v Savox's and they seem pretty solid in a Bomber and SCX10.1. A have a 444oz/in in my RR but it's not waterproof. The waterproof units have a warranty and seem plenty powerful though I'm not the type to get into a bind and try to snap my diff housing in half with a 600oz/in servo.

I think someone said the stock servo was about 120 something oz/in which isn't much so (over) doubling the torque will make a huge difference. I'm going to run the same servo in my TRX-4.

Stock servo is 125 ozin, somewhat a travesty to call it high torque.

You want something on the other side of 200 or 300 for it, I have not yet decided what to get for mine so I couldn't be of help there.

I went and bought a Tactic TSX55 for my TRX to increase the torque on it. Its rated at 203 OZ at 6V. I'm bought the higher end Servo for my SCX which is the Savox SA-1283SG Aluminum Case Digital Servo. That's rated at 416

I am actually thinking about getting an expensive non waterproof servo... as I just spent two days pulling everything apart on it after driving it in the water last weekend

Did water get everywhere or did it mostly drain out ok? I couldn't imagine myself wanting to pull the truck apart regularly...so many screws with so many annoying angles; it's definitely not built for easy disassembly like an SCX10.

The metal diffs still felt "wet" when I pulled them apart, there was still water droplets inside the diff(and most other places). It did not look like it had any problems with the water. The diffs and the trans are really not that bad to get to, I just went overkill and had the truck down to the frame rails cleaning it to keep it looking new... New truck syndrome ;)

Well, you can Waterproof the Servo yourself, a few different ways. One would be to just plasti dip the whole thing. The other would be to get some Conformal coating, take the PCB board that is in the bottom and put about 3 decent coats on it, making sure to let it dry between the coats of course and than take and use some Marine Grease in the top where the gears are. I am sure there are probably some other ways to do it, just cannot think of them at the moment.

Also, be aware the stock ESC has a 6V/1A BEC, so for high powered servos you'll probably want an external BEC to feed it more Amps...

I've been happy with the waterproof Power HD LW-20MG so far. It's a bit "whiney" as it hunts for center sometimes, but has enough torque to keep the tires in place when Crawling. The stock servo horn is a perfect fit too (although I'll likely swap over to an aluminum one). Hard to beat for ~$20

The stock servo is an defective POS. completely unacceptable and incapable of performing as advertised, required or expected.

I reluctantly dropped for a waterproof Savox with 300oz at the recommend of my LHS. He didn't have a bec in stock yesterday so we put a capacitor on it until he gets his next order in.

It worked great yesterday. Burning out one servo and stripping another within 4 hours use I wasn't happy with the truck. Traxxas making me jump through hoops and wait for a replacement stock POS didn't help.

The realisation most of you treat upgrade servos like batteries and remove them if you sell the truck and being able to drive it yesterday made my attitude towards my TRX better. It does work well now so its on to minor tuning mods.

That's a good Savox IME. Works great on my Bomber and SCX10; I'm going to use one in the TRX4 too. Not enough power to break anything but enough to drive well.
