Default K5 vs Defender

So my local hobby store has both the K5 and Defender in stock. I definitely want a trx for my next crawler but I'm trying do decide between the two. I know the defender doesn't have clear windows. But comes with a bunch of scale accessories with it. I guess my question is between the two which one should I get mostly prioritizing performance? I know practically the same truck but what are the differences between them if any?

It’s really up to you, the K5 has better approach angle but the defender looks cooler in my opinion.
I have a defender

K5 has a lighter body and you can put a small motor in the front. It’s the better perform due to COG. That said I have a D110 and I love it. Brushless brass, fly sky receiver and remote for absolute control of diffs, lights, scale accessories. It’s awesome.

I looked at both at my local shop and went with the K5. Its just a badass truck. Fenders are on the chassis vs the body, you have space for the a smaller battery upfront by the servo, its a lighter body so you're not as top heavy. K5 is also less common than the defender if that's your thing.

I love my TRX bronco(same exact thing as blazer just Bronco body) I love that it had the fenders on the chassis, shorter wheelbase so it looks great with my custom bed in the works, amazing detail on the body, etc. I’d get the K5 personally, but you won’t be making a bad choice either way!

It would be cool to see a K5 TRX trailing with a Bronco!

RIGHT!? Here on the island, I have only seen 2 crawlers and they were online for sale. There isn’t one hobby store here. I have to get everything shipped from AMain.

Yeah, I really do wish more people were into them. Whenever people see me crawling, they're always interested, its like the kid inside them wakes up and wants to play

My hobby store has a few crawlers. But mostly folks around here are into bashing. Being in LA you would think it'd be more popular.

I get the same reactions here. I think I’m the only TRX on the Big Island. There’s really great spots here.

My opinion*:

The K5 is a good looking body, the Bronco also looks good but I prefer the K5. Every other TRX4 body looks like crap.

The K5 is lighter and better approach and departure.

Both bodies are too heavy for me. I would see witch body I could sell for the most and pick that one.

If I planed on keeping a TRX4 body the K5 is the only one I would consider,

BUT I think the TRX 4 with selectable and 2 speed is the best rtr out there However, I am more of a performance than appearance person so unnecessary weight has to go.

*the opinions expressed above are mine and not meant as a personally attack on anybody.

Figured its time for a photo. Got the light kit. Swapped the roof rack, light bar, wheels and interior from the ascender.
