Default Tires or sponge, degraded?

Although in this photo the tire is under pressure, after 20 km of Rc hiking, the tires and sponge set, seem extremely soft, even deforming without any effort. The comparison is with the spare tire and with the first pics.

Do this also happen to someone else?

The foam in these tires is too soft for my taste. Get them wet a few times and you will basically have four "flats" lol. When I removed mine to put on some beadlocks the foam had begun to degrade after just a couple of weeks.

What is a good foam to replace the stock with that work good with the stock tires? I plan on getting some deadlocks, so may as well change the foam at the same time. My stock tires however are holding up very good and I will use them until one fails.

Mudflap is right, the TRX-4 demo truck at my LHS saw a little bit of water one time (when they first received it) and now it is resting firmly on four completely flat tires.

They pulled one tire apart and the stock foam is discolored, smelly, and disintegrating badly. In fact, the foam is so bad we couldn't tell what color it was originally. I think when it was new the foam was white; now it's yellow and brown and crumbly. While sitting on the ground it looks like all four tires have been slashed.

Personally, I like the Proline Dual Stage Foam inserts. They have the closed cell foam(the hard light blue foam) on the inside, wrapped by the open cell foam (the soft white foam) on the outside. This gives you enough give so that your tires will deform to the obstacle you're climbing, but won't collapse nearly to the rim. They also won't roll and bend over in hard turns with a little speed causing your vehicle to roll over. Plus, even though we aren't going for high speeds usually, if your vehicle is capable of higher speeds the pizza cutter effect is minimized by the hard inner foam.
The Proline dual stage foam really is your best all around choice. They make them for 1.9 and 2.2 tires. The 1.9 XL size tires part number is: 6174-00.
Now that I've mentioned sizes, I don't know all the sizes they offer.

Proline and Crawler Innovations make great 2 stage foams which allow a bit of deformation without collapsing as mentioned above.

Thanks for the tips...looking at the proline foam I believe.

How hard is it to remove the tires from the stock rims without damage to either? I had bad luck trying to do so with my Slash :/

I baked mine for 25 minutes at 350 and it worked perfect!

Must've been the cheap-o stock wheels on the slash. Wish Traxxas would've made some beadlocks to throw on the TRX4...I would've paid the difference personally, as long as it wasn't ridiculous. Although I understand a lot of people would not have wanted to due to being deep into the hobby already and having other sets and/or just wanting to pick the ones they want.

Yes, they definitely seem very poor quality, it happens only after two weeks of running in this river of clean water and staying underwater 15 seconds

In my Emaxx this did not happen until after almost two years !!
It is not a matter of replacing them with new ones and better ones, but it must not happen so quickly.

Works great! Or desk lamp with 40 watt bulb and metal lid, 20 minutes on first side, break the bead, 10 minutes on second side, remove tire and wipe off excess CA while still hot.
Desk lamp method worked better than any other method I've ever witnessed or used.
I'm liking the Pro Line blue single stage foams so far, they fill in the tire nicely and have a stout construction, and precision cut. Having used CI, it's nice to have alternative options.

water will ruin regular foams period. Get some good single stage foams from the afore mentioned companies.

Why didn't you or anyone else who's running the truck in water just cover the vent holes so water cannot get inside the wheel to destroy the foam? Way easier to do and it doesn't take any real money or a lot of work. Just seems like everyone is thinking about a fix when they don't know how to block the flow inside to the foams. I've ran many stock foams and wheels and tires in deep water on vented wheels. But I always did the necessary changes to stop water from messing up my foams. Heck take a plumbers tape and cover the holes on the inner part of the wheels. Takes very little time or effort. And guess what then you don't have any reason to complain. And it saves the effort. But this is just my opinion on the matter.

not only does taping the air holes prevent water from ruining the foams it makes the tire perform better as they are just too soft from the factory out of the box even when the foams are good

I have new wheels coming tomorrow so i needed to try this.

PROPS to rock hugger and Natedog, Thanks for the insight to this method

3 tires went perfect so I decided to capture the last on video so I had to hunt down the GoPro...

here is a video I made of this technique.

I would not recommend trying this in your daughters easy bake ovens though

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shAgrNEFQ7s

I should go throw this up in the Tires and Wheels section.

. My tablet won’t let me put 1000 thumbs up smilies damnit!!!
Let me just be the first to quote comment and like this post!!

I would like to Thank ScoJac for putting mine and Nate’s method into a super awesome how to video .
And a fresh cup of coffee to you sir!

Great job keeping safety in mind as well as these things get really hot inside.
A few notes for the next user:

1. Gloves are a requirement
2. Ventilation of the area from fumes is suggested
3. One would even suggest eye protection (vaping CA glue can burn, it may also fling or splash out when softened).

We used a 40 watt bulb and set the wheel directly on the bulb, I think your method is better (60 watt, paint grate, tin foil backing plate).

Neither Nate or myself have a GoPro or Utoob account, but I’m glad ScoJac does!!!

Can we get a sticky in the tire section for the video?

As the trx4 tires are slightly bigger do we still use the 1.9 dual foams or cut 2.2s?
