Default Front differential failure? With video.

Looks like some kind of diff failure.

Any thoughts on what it could be? It drives fine in reverse with the diff locked or unlocked. But forward turning unlocked and the left wheel won't turn. Locked it does turn but skips or jumps. Again this is all only when the wheels are turned.

did you check the CVD on that side? That behavior is more indicative of a broken CVD drive pin or other related parts. Either way diff or CVD is an easy fix.

So it was the CVD not having grease from the factory. Resulted in this....

Shame since I am gone on vaca and can't get a replacement from anyone. So I just pulled the shaft and locked the front diff so I can run it in 3 wheel drive.

That's not a grease failure that's a metal failure, the metal fractured around the pin. Looks like in making them strong the parts may in fact be on the edge of being too brittle.

It might that the endpoints weren't set, or there was no mechanical stop and they got oversteered. That's the quickest way to break any CV / Uni.

Not sure but shouldn't the end points have been set from the factory?

Yes, but there are physical end points on this vehicle also. Were you bound up on a rock running 4s and a brushless motor hitting full throttle? What's the story?

To me it's not a big deal, just check the proper mechanics, replace the inner shaft and move on. It could be an anomaly, it could be a problem. Let us know if it reoccurres.

3s, I wasn't hung up on anything. Just ripping it around. I'll check the physical end points. I think was just a fluke but I ordered some replacements.

never trust the factory same with grease fist check is is there grease where it has to be.

difference between rtr and kit: a kit i put together and i know what's on, rtr i have to tear down and put it back together so rtr is more work

Wait.... Hold the phone... Did you just say "just rippin around"? Striking resemblance to the famous first words of the city dwelling hipster (think too tight & too short pants w\baby T-shirt) or in sunny California, a bikini clad blonde babe bicycle rider who meandered into the bike shop I used to work at, where said "cyclist" points unknowingly at his/her broken chain, flat tire, and bent wheel and mutters "I was just riding along... and...". There's a strange resemblance to the JRA (just riding along) I'm familiar with, and the JRA (just rippin around) you just muttered!!!

Are part hipster?

Has anyone else broken these thus far? Maybe I'll order a set.

I have seen them break the outer gear portion of the cv axle but not yet seen a broken cv shaft.

"just rippin around" I'm guessing that also included some jumping as well. I think we just found the root cause. I wouldn't do too much "just rippin around" with the front diff locked or you will be replacing the spider gears as well. You would probably be better off removing the front drive shaft.
