Default Something's been Bugging me.....

I bought this bug body for one of my Slashes, but never got around to using it until now......

My wife wanted a C2 rig so rather than buying another, we decided to put the bug body on the TRX4.

We mocked it up and hit the rockpile and what a difference. That giant heavy body was a huge hinderance so now it climbs like a dream.

It's stock except for a Solar D772 servo and faux Hyrax tires. The locker servos failed long ago so the cables are zip tied together for full time lock.

I ordered 1.9 Proline TSL XL's and dual stage foams as well as a winch and some scale bits.

We will be fabbing tube bumpers and adding a light bar....

That looks like a good fit. I was just eyeing up the Proline Beetle bodies, they do look good. Does the TRX-4 have the same wheelbase as the slash?

I dont know If you guys have the paint picked out but I was just hunting down some paint last night and found a few great classic car colors. I love the solid 60's colors and in my opinion there are a few very fitting colors for a Beetle in the teal to light blue range, check out Tamiya PS-54, PS-49 and PS-32
Some of these seem pretty close to the factory colors.

Yes, the TRX4 stock wheelbase and the slash 4x4 wheel base are both 324mm.

This body is the proline full fender body, they also make one with the fenders cut more Baja style.

Those colors look great, my wife is wanting a hippie theme so we will have to wait to see what she comes up with

I did some ramp testing and the Buggy T-Rex made 55* with a shorty battery zip tied to the frame in front of the steering servo.

More progress...

And

First time with an airbrush so it didn’t come out super good.

Still need to finish the rear body mount and then shut lines and stickers.

Got the body mounts done, lines and stickers done and getting ready to hit a local crawl spot with friends, went to the backyard rockpile for a test run and the motor failed...

I found a 540 20t axial motor in my pile and installed that...

Started the day with the giant boggers, but they made it too top heavy so I switched back to TSL’s and it performed really well.

I stole your idea and forgot, that’s funny

I drilled a set of holes behind the existing tray holes and then zip tied the front to the upper link until I build a better mount. I’ll probably turn it around when I attempt to solve the locker servo issue.

My servos both failed very early and they are too expensive and weak to replace so I ordered some cheapies from Banggood. My plan is to run both lockers at once, either both on one arm of one servo or two servos in the same channel with a 2way cable so I can run a winch with the other channel.

The airbrush is Testors brand and the paint is fascolor.

Looks good, why flip it around if it works well?

Knock on wood my stockers are still going after some serious workouts. I have the BlueBird micro metal gears in reserve.

Good to know, I still need one, Faskolor is good stuff!

I haven’t done any testing since I did the tray so I don’t know if it works.

I took the bug to the local crawl spot where I’ve been testing the Blazer mods (better tires, sway bar, and axle puller upper) and the bug was able to conquer both lines of the rock wall while the Blazer can only do the “easy” line. This was after installing the Proline TSL’s.

The rest of the obstacles tried with the TSL’s I either equaled or bettered the Blazer.

The next round of upgrades will be to increase scale points so we’ll see how they effect performance....

Update on my motor, I emailed support and told them thanks for the servo gears they sent (I didn’t say I haven’t used them yet) and then told them my motor stopped working.

They responded telling me this:

“The only warranty is the 30 day electronic warranty. We do not cover driving style, crash damage, operating conditions, maintenance, part longevity, wear and tear, weather conditions etc... Motors are not electronic components and are not covered under any warranty.”

So I was ready to order a Holmes motor and then I read the next paragraph:

“I am sending a replacement motor this time to help get you going again.”

What?!?? Credit to Traxxas, they didn’t have to send me a motor but I got a shipping notice the next day and it will be here Monday

Tower pro MG90S servos to replace the stock servos that failed on day 1.

I got 6 of these for $13 from Banggood rather than the $20-30 per that Traxxas wants for their plastic geared servos.

I’m excited to test out the lockers tomorrow. And yes, I made them work in the proper sequence, open then rear lock and then both locked.
