Default best knuckle weights?

Since there are so many options out there now, I'm wondering which are the most effective / heaviest for the price. I've been looking at so many variations, they all seem the same at this point, lol!
Thanks!

Get portals and everything at the end of the axle in brass ( not counting wheels )

for Traxxas TRX-4 #TRX4-4412, ,(TRX4-4412) by Samix Brass Knuckle 2 pcs Black

In total that will add about 300 grams to your axle.

I personally use different options front and rear on my trex.
Front: yeah racing brass portal covers + codyboy knuckle weights
Rear: team dc portal cover/ knuckle weights.

Today i myself would go with the ssd portalcover / knuckle weights, if you want knuckle weights. or ask codyboy if he has some still available, handmade and the first option out as i know.
But you can gain also weight down with the options mentioned above, without knuckle weights.
All parts i used fits right on, no issues. i would get what you like and gives you the weight you want. knuckle weights are not the only option for this.

I went with the portal covers from SSD, on all 4 corners.

Highly recommend these, the fit and finish is high quality.

And plenty of room inside the JConcepts Torch brass weighted wheels.

It's weighing in at 11.4 pounds with battery. Climbing up the steeps is vastly improved.

MFR portal & Codyboy knuckle weights are among the first options. (thank you Ernie)
Still the best IMO!

I painted the knuckle weights with aluminum engine block paint for the outer rings, and flat black on the center pieces.

now SSD will go on TRX #2

I am running the SSD portal covers up front. They weigh a bit more than the other options and they have a nice durable finish that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. The short run I have had on it since I added the portal covers impressed me. Then my radio crapped out...

I'm not following the trend of adding 5lbs of brass parts. I want to keep the weight reasonable.

I just wanted to add that MFR now has a site you can buy through, a quick search didn't bring it up so I though I would share it https://metalfabbyreed.com/

I would have got these sooner but I didn't want to buy through Facebook, I think this has been up since June so this is kind of old news, but maybe it will help some.

these are replacement portal covers, so these are essentially knuckle weights.

Yeah, either portal covers or weights, either way. Any other good options out there??

Maybe this can help some:

Brass Portal covers and Brass Axle C's;

The weight of the factory plastic;

The weight of a single brass cover;

Both covers together;

Factory plastic axle c weight;

Single brass axle c;

Both of the brass axle c's together;

Something to be aware of... not all "bolt on" replacement parts are made the same as factory specs:

Factory Traxxas C, notice the positive caster and how much the top of the C is leaning back toward the rear;

STRC Brass C, notice it has less positive caster and has less of lean towards the rear of the vehicle at top;

Thanks for pointing that out about the Chubs and the difference in caster angle.

Well all the castor talk got me wondering if the new Locked Up RC C hubs were the same or not, and they look to have replicated the same bolt pattern as stock.

Thanks for comparison pictures Eddie, STRC needs to pay more attention, the large amount of caster on the TRX-4 is one of it's pros and adds to the offroad ability.

I agree. Had I known this before hand about the axle c's, I would have looked at other options before purchasing.

Hey Nate maybe I can pick your brain for a moment on Caster?

I've been reading up on the matter and have come to roughly understand that with crawlers more is generally better for turning ability but too much may cause rubbing on the links and/or springs.
So is the general concept to get as much as possible without causing too much rub?

This was prompted by Gmade releasing 2 sets of C hubs for the Gom, one at 10 degrees (stock) and one at 20 degrees. Its too bad its not simply adjustable as its a bit of a commitment.
