in a way, the traction hobby Cragsman with some similar features, but then again Traxxas is a trusted brand name.

Are you asking about market competition or if people are running the TRX4 as a comp rig?

I ran mine at the RPP Jamboree adventure trail run. 82 gates, only 3 touches and made all the gates, some that other trucks couldn't make. Finished first in the seniors class. Very happy with how it drove and had fun besides!"thumbsup"

Yes, Ernie, Casey and I all competed at RPP Jamboree with our TRX4s and they did well on course! There was a fair amount of water, mud, rocks, wet and dry dirt. Mine took a few big falls and tumbles which I think hastened my tranny shift servo gears demise, but I just left it in first gear for the rest of the runs. We all did quite well overall, it’s just a few mods and a lighter body swap away from doing even better!

Edit, I had zero water intrusion in the axles despite not really preparing them specifically for water.

How does it compare to your ascender performance wise?.

I haven’t comped ours yet, but my wife said she wanted a competitive C2 rig for next year so I got a lighter body and started tuning ours for next season.

I’ve been moding and tuning (build thread Something’s been bugging me) and testing each weekend.

Last weekend, I did a trail run with a couple other comp guys and the TRX4 equaled or bettered their rigs on most obstacles with minor mods and tuning.

I ran a basically stock( servo change tires and wheels and some weight up front) trx at the northeast national in class 2 and finished 13 out of 26 and would have been 2 nd if i had full scale points! Cleaned the first 3 courses and bumped a gate on the last that most people were winching up! Was my 1 st comp too!

Re: Anyone competing with a TRX-4?

Yep, I’ve ran our uk scale nationals with a trx4, scx10, scx10.2 and a scx10 based 6x6.
Did as well if not better on some gates, but it is top heavy, (I don’t mind as I prefer the look) and the stock servo is not up to the job.
Otherwise I’m in no way regretting the £500 price tag.

Re: Anyone competing with a TRX-4?

I comped mine the last 3 comps of our season. I took apart my normal SCX10 comp truck for upgrades and didn't finish in time so I ran to the hobby shop and grabbed a TRX4. Swapped bodies, servo, and wheels/tires. Continued to take 3rd place every comp which was my normal spot since I lose to 2 other guys with scale points. Next season I'm going back to an SCX10.2 based truggy for Class 2 but the TRX4 held its own for sure.

Thanks man.... And yes, only true comparison can be made with same tyres and foams really...

If you really want to comp with TRX-4 and get serious, swap body, wheels, foams (maybe tires), locked front diff (preferably with a nice tight tolerance steel spool, come on LockedUpRC!), switchable rear diff (for lower COG lock both diffs and remove servos and linkage), remove tranny servo and gears converting to single speed (less weight up high). That would be another fun project. "thumbsup"

Love to try some smaller 1.9 tires on this truck and my Ascener, set up similar to my old trusty Honcho. 8)

I do, I built mine with brass and stuff specifically to comp with brass and other things and I finally got my first C2 win with this truck Sunday at our Winter Series.

Re: Anyone competing with a TRX-4?

A couple weeks back I ran my trx4 and lightweight 10.2 (comp rig) back to back. My trx4 did everything my comp rig did except side hill and I was running 4.19” tires vs nearly 5” on my 10.2. My trx4 isn’t stock but not overly modded either. It has a XJ body, ssd portal covers, HR shock mounts (lowers COG if using the top holes), 4.19” KLR’s on vanquish roosts.

Re: Anyone competing with a TRX-4?

I have a heavily modified 10.2 for a comp rig. My current TRX-4 is just a fun trail rig, but I'm getting another one. This next one will be setup more like a comp rig. I'm curious to see what they can do with better weight distribution, more clearance, and some suspension tuning.

Sounds like as per most trucks they have potential. I imagine their initial limiting factors are weight and that tall cog. But as per most, with a bit of a rejig, a diet and perhaps different body or widening track they have a good solid foundation.
