Default Broken stock Motor

Anyone else break the built in fan on the stock motor?

Apparently i was able to, and it appears it decided to melt in doing so. Managed to pull all of this out from the motor. Thinking i will run it until it completely shits the bucket then upgrade. being new the the RC world and crawlers especially, i went ahead and did some research as far as what designations mean when it comes to 21 turn motors vs higher/lower turns. So ive gotten a good idea as to where i plan to go with that. However for ESC's is it "mandatory" to upgrade that as well? or can i stick it out with the stock one for now?

You don't have to switch ESCs unless you were switching to a brushless motor, in which case you'd need a brushless capable ESC. Some ESCs like the Hobbywing 1080 (brushed only) and Castle Mamba (Brushed/Brushless/Sensored Brushless) have extra tuning for drag brake, reverse speed, etc. for fine tuning.

Also don't be going lower than a 21 turn motor with that wax as you'll burn it out !

Yeah the Traxxas motor isn't junk (their Batteries are though), but If you wanted something different the Holmes 550 sealed can is a great alternative, I ran one for a bit in my TRX-4 until I gave in to my urges to upgrade further.

I looked into getting another traxxas motor just for the ease of it and since i do a fair amount of water crossings i figured a stock cheap motor i wont care much about would be good. however the brushed 550 motors aren't expensive at all. May just go with a holmes model as they too are inexpensive.
