Spreading it on the seams with my finger. And using a small screw driver to apply it around the plugs.

Don't forget a dab over the binding hole...

Here's some shots from a morning crawl. Includes winching, the bridge and a rail section...

Here's a video from this weekend. I got out and put the TRX4 through a good test running a section of fairly rough river bottom...

Time to get out and enjoy some rare nice weather on the last day of March. Here's the TRX4 again, looking good and crawling even better...

I really enjoyed all the gory detail in this thread. Especially your earlier sketch and thoughts about center of gravity. Nice

Thanks guys! The positive comments are nice to hear. It's a lot of work, but we do it because we love it, right? Good luck with yours builds, then get out and enjoy them...

I build model cars as well as the RC thing and follow a few groups/pages. See a bit of kit bashing to make what is not produced but first time seeing it done on an RC body and to the extent you've done here. Very good work sir, nice rig.

I got the Traxxas track set for my TRX4. Very straight forward install and then I took them right out to my backyard short course to test them...

After driving my TRX4 with tracks for the YouTube video shoot, I have some observations to make.

They look awesome. It has more ground clearance while maintaining a low center of gravity. Very cool...

The approach and exit angles are steeper due to their length versus tires.

With the larger footprint than tires the traction is very good on most surfaces. Smooth rocks are worse than a tire with a good sticky compound.

In most cases they steer ok, although the turning radius is bigger. In rocks they do hang up some, they can wedge in cracks due to their length, to the point where the strongest servo will stall.

I'm running all stock electronics, no external bec, with an upgraded steering servo. A Savox 1210SG with 277 in/oz of torque. I've never had a problem with this setup and didn't have any problem with the tracks on either.

I'm also running a larger pinion gear for more top end. A 14 tooth, I think. I ran the truck full throttle with the tracks, in low and high range. It handled it fine, runs smooth, and actually runs quieter than at crawling speeds. I'm guessing it would overheat the electronics on an extended trail run tho. For my style of driving, I won't hold back from the occasional full throttle snort in high range...

One other thing I noticed. They tend to "trip" on sharp approach angles and tilt nose down. Using front locked differential only helps, then the rear tracks aren't jamming the front ones as much. Like tires it steers better on climbs with sharp turns in front lock only.

So that's my two cents for what it's worth.

All in all I highly recommend them for a fun change of pace and a different crawling experience!

I did another test on the Traxxas track set and maybe answer any questions someone may have about them. Or if you're on the fence about buying them...
