Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

I am sorry that I haven't got a lot of pictures from the off-road driving. But that's because my co-pilot didn't want to drive in rough terrain and he wasn't that stoked to take photos while I was driving, so.. I might have some movie clips from crossing a river or two, but I haven't got time to check the gopro yet, I dont know what it did record and not..
But after the off-roading we were going back to Reykjavik, and thats just driving on regular roads, nothing special there.. But then again, that day a storm occured and led to all the mountain crossings were closed by the law enforcers. And even if we tried to talk our way pass them, they wouldn't let us.. Thank god for that.. :D

So we ended up with two choices, one was to sleep in the cars over night until the storm has calmed down, or we could find a road that was allready closed for the winter, meaning that there wouldn't be any police to report us passing the barriers there.. It would take a lot of time and effort, but the guide was pretty confident that we should be able to make it over, since we were all Norwegians used to bad weather and conditions.. So we chose the last option :D Lets go around this one!

It soon got dark, and the conditions worsened for every minute, I was very happy I was sitting in a pure bread Arctic Truck!

Again I need to apology for the lack of photos, but there wasn't really a lot to take pictures of, because we couldn't see anywhing and had to concentrate on driving and getting back home, while having the time of our lives. :D

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

After we'd fought our way over this winterclosed road and were almost "safe and sound" we met two cars on their way up the same road we had been using 2-3hrs crossing this mountain pass.
They didn't have anything else to do, so they just was heading out to have some fun.. AWW, I wanted to turn around and go with them..!!! But they didn't let me.. :/

And finally we got back to the sivilization, a bit hungry but at good spirit! :)

I'm hoping that at least the gopro has some footage I can show you guys, but I cant promise anything right now..

But let me say this, if you are thinking of going to Iceland? Just do it!! Save up some money and get on a guided tour with Arctic Truck Experience, it is well worth the money for sure! I'm going back, and then I'll go for a three day trip with the ATEx, no doubt!

Looks like a great time! Really like that yota. Never seen fender flares like that before, but I guess always driving in the snow you almost have to have them. That place is definitely on my bucket list.

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

Yeah, I didn't even know that it was on my bucket list, but I found it right smack on the top ten on the list, and now I got it allready!! :D
But I'm going back, thats for sure.. And there is more affordable alternatives, you can rent a Defender without guide for a lot less, maybe I'll do that next time..
The flares need to match the tires, and the tires are.. just massive! :D

Yeah, I hope so. I'm downloading the files as we speak. I may get time to check them tomorrow.

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

Sorry guys, I've seen through the videos and there is a few clips that are ok, but nothing spectacular.. I guess we were caught up in the fun so much we forgot to film the most awesome stuff..
But I dont remember if I told you who organized this trip? At april 1st I'm starting in a new job with a new company. That company took me on this trip with the rest of the guys to get to know eachother before I'm starting there, can you imagine!!??
So I talked to one of my co-worker to be and he told me he alone got 14 gigs with video from his gopro, and he thought that maybe a few other guys also have some footage.. So maybe there is a hope that I might get something out of the trip after all!
Fingers crossed!!

And now back to the RC-world. I've come a bit longer with my Defender pickup 2.0, maybe I'll name it something like "D110 CC v2.0"? Would that be a decal to have on the side of it? Any other suggestions? I have been thinking of a couple color schemes, one of them is a white body with black roof and black flares, I saw one 1:1 like that on youtube and it looked awesome. But if I want that look I'm not going for the roof rack, and then I need to get rid of the mountingholes for the original rack..
Help me out with choosing the right color for it! And even if I want to have it all black, I dont want it because of two things.. One is that I allready have one black and I think that's an awesome look on that truck, I just love the "backyard homemade ratlook" on that, and the other is that it's hard to get good details in photos and specially film with an all black body, so I'm open for suggestions and brainstorming, give me a hand here! :)

I like the "white body with black roof and black flares" idea, myself...

Ah, finally I got somethings done to the Defender v2.0
It looks like I'm going to be done with the adjusting to get things in place very soon, and then it's just prepping and painting and deciding on what to do with the flares.. Do I use the stock ones or do I print some custom ones..?
https://i.imgur.com/B7fWosm.jpg
Sorry for the crappy quality of the images, the sun is shining on the snow outside so the balance isnt that good.. At least I got two pics to show :D

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

Very cool!

If you 3D print some flares. you could prevent the droopy look of the stock flares, one of the only minor issues I have noticed with the appearance of the Defender.

Re: SiCkPuPPy's TRX-4 with a Hummer H1-body.

What do you mean with droopy look..?

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

Ah, after using google translate I might found out what you're meaning..
You want the flares to be more like almost paralell to the ground from the body, like this..?
https://i.imgur.com/swkdDAe.jpg
And not the saggy flares like this?
https://i.imgur.com/TvfVaXh.jpg
Well, I dont think they are very saggy, but I think I understand what you're talking about..
I'm gonna leave the flares to my ex-coworker to copy the hole patterns and then I can work out from that..

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

This I think. Mine are a little droopy... more with the rears than the fronts but still... you can see it a little bit in this pic.

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

Aha, yeah I dont want that..!
But I dont know if I'm able to design new stiffer ones tho', thats a question for the future.. :D

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

It's because the stocks are rubber ( rubberized plastic idk?). 3Dp material would be more rigid so I can see it. But yeah they sag. My buddy's d110 does it too. Btw... I'm following this thread and thinking that this recent trip and these full-sized arctic-built vehicles are magnificent! Really cool stuff.

Re: SiCkPuPPy's TRX-4 with a Hummer H1-body.

Done gluing the parts that are ready..
Now I just need to shave some details with the dremel, print a few additions, sand it and paint it..
Whooo, it's getting close! [emoji3059][emoji85][emoji41]
