Stock esc drag brake

Noticed my drag brake seems to have almost stopped working, curious as to how a drag brake even works. Is it just on the inertia of the motor ? Thought mine had started playing up due to worn bushes. First issue yet after 3 wet muddy months and still on stock steering servo.

My drag brake eventually became inconsistent also after a few months. I watched a video on Youtube in which someone else identified that his similar, drag brake woes could be attributed to the spring on his transmitter. I considered following his troubleshooting methods but first thought I would take this as an opportunity to replace the stock ESC with a Hobbywing 1080. This turned out to be a good solution to me. It also resolved the high temperature issues which were prevalent when I wanted to run a 3S battery.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna investigate little more I think and wait till this motor beds replacing before I do anything else. I'm enjoying brushed control and slowness. I've broken so many parts on my axials going overpowered I'm enjoying trails and crawls with no broken parts at the moment.
