Default Jeep JK TRX-4 Build

Look what came in the mail today! The pics are from my daughter since I am still at work. This is my first Traxxas and anxious to see what’s in the box. Will take some pics as soon as I get home.

Default Jeep JK TRX-4 Build

First impressions of the kit. I really like how the broke parts up into individual bags. No parts trees to cut. The shocks are somewhat put together. Will need to add oil and springs. The links are already done but I will be using Incision links. Everything else looks like it must be built.

The instructions seem to be nice at first glance but we will see when I start the build.

Nice. Looks like they didn't cheap out on the instructions. No parts trees to fool with is a bonus too!

Looks like they did a good job on the build instructions.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is Traxxas first kit.

Don’t quote me on this but I think so. A lot of the parts are labeled because they aren’t on trees.

Got the chassis put together.
One thing I’m not sure how I feel yet is that the upper shock mounts are integrated into the inner fenders. Including the upper panhard Mount. Kinda sucks to have to replace a whole inner fender if something breaks.

I am looking forward to this. I am a Jeep owner and have other 1:10 Jeep Crawlers. I know many people are tired of the jeep bodies but I love them. I preordered the new Proline Jeep JK body for the 12.8 wheelbase. Hopefully it comes soon.

Do you think that body will fit? I bought a the 4runner from proline to put on my Bronco and it's extremely tight and not quite wide enough. I'll have to do some modifications. But i'm going to use it for crawling exclusively.

Nice build so far!!

That's interesting that both the front and rear upper shock mounts are integrated into the fenders, I saw that the rears were but didn't realize the fronts were too.

Thanks man. Without having the body on hand it’s hard to say for sure. The new jk body was made for the TRX-4 so I would think it should fit great. Hopefully RPP gets it in soon so they can ship it out to me. Then we’ll know for sure.

Yeah I’m not a fan of that at the moment. Time will tell if that will be a problem.

Yes, but not first kit, TRX-1 two wheel drive race buggy was iirc first kit, then later OG Stampede was available as a kit. I like kits, building is at least half the fun!

I think the old twin motor emaxx came as a kit too?

This looks like fun though! Did you pick up a screw kit or are you using the provided set?

I have one of those new PL Jeep JK TRX4 bodies, ordered direct from PL, and trust me it is NOT a drop on fit. Like any PL body it will need to be trimmed and you will also find that the TRX4 inner fenders will also need to be trimmed to fit inside the confines of the body. This new PL Jeep body is only a TRX4 fit with respect to the 12.8" wheelbase nothing more. I was pretty disappointed with it frankly.

I studied the pre-release TRX4 kit photos and noticed that the shock towers appeared to be integrated into the inner fenders which I commented on in another thread here. What I am not sure of is if it is possible to install the TRX4.1 shock towers and inner fenders on the TRX4.2 chassis. If so that would give builders some options.

To be honest if you want a drop on or nearly drop on body take a look at the Ascender K5 Blazer body with LURC conversion body mounts, or the SCX10.II Jeep Cherokee also with a LURC conversion body mount. I also suspect the new SCX10.II 2017 Wrangler body will be a nearly drop on fit for the TRX4.2 chassis given the shorter 12.3" wheelbase.

That’s a little concerning. I may need to rethink my body choice. I’ll have to wait until I get my body.

So I just ran into a bit of a snag on the transmission. I don’t think the 24t output gear was machined probably. The 10mm bearing will not fit.

A quick call to Traxxas and they are getting a new 24t gear sent out. Guess I’ll move on to the axles.

I put both differential together. Love how the spider gears look.
