| Mamba X in TRX4? What motor?
Hey y’all. I’m getting close to being able to order the bronco so I have some questions for those that are already running it. How many of you are running with a mamba x? I like the idea of having it sensored for crawling and also want to avoid an external BEC for whatever servo I put in there. Any thoughts feedback? I’m thinking either the 1406-2280kv motor or the 1406-2850kv motor, and I want to take advantage of the two speed transmission. Leaning towards the 2280kv, curious as to what the speed in high gear will be like. Not looking for too fast but fast enough for some good trail action. I’d also like to find some bead locks that are close to the stock look. Any feedback on AXI8088? |

I spoke directly with CC before purchasing my Mamba X and they specifically recommend the 1406-2280 Slate motor for the TRX4. That is what I installed with a 9t pinion and I could not be happier. I run 2s most of the time for slow crawling but if I run 3s the truck has all the speed I could ever want and never any heat issues. Many people swear by the HH motors but I have no direct experience with them so I can't offer any comment one way or the other.

I vote for the 2280kv motor, that is what is in my TRX4. The stock motor gives you plenty of wheelspeed on 3S and the 2280 motor does a very good job of duplicating the stock motor top end but runs waaaay cooler. Very happy with the performance with a 9T pinion. Also from my TRX4, Gearhead 12 pack wheels. They look a lot like the Bronco wheels and mount up any tire super easy. |

The 2280kv is probably the ideal motor for 2S/3S. I run a 1900kv on 4S in my TRX-4 Defender. I have a Tekin 1200kv motor on the way for the Bronco when I get it . That'll be on 6S.

From watching videos I think the 2850kv is perfect. Little more speed, but no cog.

Great info, thanks everyone. I have the motor, esc, servo (savox 1256tg), and servo horn in my cart now. Already have hyrax tires on hand and I think I’ll pick up the rc4wd z-w0073 wheels. But I need help finding the following... 9t pinion - is it 48p? Part(s) to get the two speed transmission functional screw kit - assuming the rtr screws aren’t ideal for repeated tooling And then I think I’ll have about $50 left to add some weight, tons of options for this it looks like. For first additions, what is effective but won’t throw the balance out of whack? |

A person can always pinion up a 2280, but you can't gear down that far with the 2800... I'm planning on going 2280, and if I want more speed, just throw a 4s pack or a 13t pinion on.

I am running a castle slate 2850 with a mamba X. it crawls as good as stock, doesn't cog at all, and with a 3s it's silly fast. I think it goes somewhere between 25-30mph. I would highly recommend it. Here is the thing, I think I could have gone with a higher KV motor and still had great crawl performance. In low gear, the ratio is 65:1. My buddy has a bomber with a final ratio of 45:1, paired with a 3800kv motor and it still crawls great, very controlable. If I did it again I might go with a even faster motor, because why not? If I'm not giving up anything on the rocks, why not make it even more silly fast? |

Was about to make a new thread about this but you guys pretty much answered all my questions. Keeping with stock gearing on 3s would that be enough for the 2280kv motor. With out over heating it. Sent from my FRD-L14 using Tapatalk |

| Re: Mamba X in TRX4? What motor? I’m guessing it will be just fine. The motor will be here on Tuesday, I’ll run it for a while and check some temps on the stock pinion before I change to a 9 tooth and will post the results.

Any one know if I can reverse the motor direction with just the castle field card? Got the mamba x and motor in but it’s running backwards, I’m assuming because of the portals. I can’t find a usb cable to fit the card so hoping it’s doable from the card alone? |

What does the "1406"-mean on this motor? the dimensions are 36mm 49.5mm.

Not sure if it means much more than the castle motor series. I think most are 1406 or 1410. | |

I believe that the 1406 numbers stand for a series of motor of x*x size larger means a bigger motor series. That is my best educated guess from what I saw on the site from castle. Sent from my FRD-L14 using Tapatalk |
