|  Traxxas 8028 LED Power Supply can i wire direct to a 3s battery?
Traxxas 8028 LED Power Supply... can i wire direct to a 3s battery with a switch to power my all ready installed traxxas led kit? I am changing over ESC to a HW sensored. Other posts on this subject have left me confused.  Last edited by willygee; 04-17-2018 at 11:25 AM. |

Yes, that would work. The output that from the stock ESC at the JST connector is whatever battery voltage your running. Since it's rated to 3S it'd be no different then going direct with a 3S battery.

Thanks..good to know. I thought there might be some current limiting involved in the esc.

I'm curious though..is the current limited in the esc vs full current being available with direct battery connection? I was thinking of a 1 amp fuse to the 8028 for over current protection.

I wouldn't worry about that, I've run it off of 3S (running through the power controller) with no issues as have quite a few others and I've tested the voltage and its stepped down quite a bit.

If you look closely at the stock ESC you will see that the JST connector is soldered in to the battery input cables so is picking up power directly off the battery.

There is a connection from the power controller to the receiver which might activate the light when switched on but I'm not sure as my setup is always on when a battery is connected (I swapped out the stock ESC) EDIT: and there are receiver controlled switches available by the way, heres the first one that came up https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-...___store=en_us But you would need a TX with a spare aux channel which the stock controller does not have Last edited by HumboldtEF; 04-17-2018 at 06:37 PM. |
