Default Diff lock question/problem

My front axle housing cracked and I had to replace it. I feel like I reassembled it correctly. Here is the thing though. When the locking cable is pulled it, more often than nor, doesn’t lock instantly. Instead the tires have to be rolled a bit and the lock will then slip into place. On my newer Bronco TRX4 and on the rear axle of this truck the diffs lock immediately and the wheels do not need to be turned to get the lock to engage. Did I do something wrong during my reassembly. Thanks.

The diff lock mechanism gets gummed up VERY easily, did you put any grease on the arm/slider?

Yep, it is all greased up. If the drive shafts are not inserted it locks and unlocks instantly.

I found it worked better with the arm and slider dry, but if removing the driveshafts changes it's behavior, you might be having a totally different issue...

The first time I rebuilt my axles, I lubed the arm and slider liberally, and it wouldn't engage without a little rolling help. Came on these forums and found others saying to run the arm and slider dry. Took the axles back apart and cleaned the grease off the arm and slider, reassembled and the problem went away...
