Default 4DR Jeep Truck

I started off building the kit, but ended up ordering the standard shock towers as the built in fenders and shock towers wouldn't work for the build that I'm doing. Currently I'm modifying a pair of Tamiya jeep wrangler bodies and turning them into one.

Also this is my first hard-body build and I'm taking my time.

Wow, one of the best looking bodies imo! Really looking forward to seeing how it continues.

Well I got the hood stretched out about an 1in and reattached and filled more or less in, just have some gap filling to do. The next step is to cut both of my bodies apart to gain the door to the back end and cut the back off the extended one to attach, so I get the 4 doors that I'm after.

I also have this to say the regular Plastruct Bondene does not really work in bonding styrene to the Tamiya Jeep hard-body, but the Plastruct Weld does work quite nicely.

Well I got the two halves joined, but not filled in and I still have the back end of the body to shorten.

Thanks Fanaticrc I wanted something different, but also wanted to do my first hard-body. I still have the truck bed to build, which I won't even start until I finish the body.

Definitely different, looks like a Jeep limo. Body just looks too small scale to start with.

Yeah it maybe small, but I'll see how it turns out. I may have to some more cutting and adding in depth, but we'll see.

After a short hiatus I got the body more or less finished except for sanding and final filling.

Well after another long hiatus. I finally was in the right frame of mind and enough energy to work on this project and I got a little bit more done. Opened up the from wheel wells and started mounting the body to the chassis.

Here is where it stands now.

I'm planning on in the next few weeks of talking with a couple of metal fab shops here in town and see if they can cut me a new longer chassis. Seeing as the few chassis companies here on the forum that I have talked with said that they have no interest in doing a custom chassis for the TRX-4.

Freaking awesome, just because your thinking outside the box and just doing something different. Cant wait to see it done.

what did you use to fill the 1 in gap in?

Thank you 83trekker83.

Styrene, overall this project is the first major abs/styrene and it has been a learning curve. I found that the Plastruct Bondene solvent doesn't really work with the abs plastic that Tamiya uses for their hard bodies, but the Plastruct Plastic weld solvent works well and its been holding. Right now I am tempted to cut the back just behind the rear doors shortening it up about an inch. That may wait until I finish filling in the gaps on the rest of the body.

After another hiatus, I made some progress and some regression as I modified the body, but this I widen it. Overall I like the look much now with the body wider than the original width Tamiya YJ Jeep body.

Well after some filling in and sanding I wasn’t liking the hood stretched, so I cut it back to its original length. I’ve also cut the back down to where it looks better.

I also cut and stalled the fender wells. Originally I wasn’t going to install them because of how much I had to modify.

So far I’m liking it the way it looks now. If this doesn’t work out I’ll scrap it build from scratch instead of modifying an existing body.

Keep it up. I think you’ve totally got something to work with here. You’re at that point where it looks terrible because of so much sanding but get through the sanding and I think you’ll have a really neat looking truck.

Thanks Itali83, yeah I know I still have a long ways to go. I'm starting to work on the flares for the fenders and I think that is part of the reason why my head is playing tricks on me when I'm looking at it.

Well I got the fenders on, which was a pain, as I had to do some build up. I also got the preliminary sanding done, but still have tons more.

Here are some updated pictures. I got the fenders finished and I’m liking the way they look. So you guys tell me whether they work or don’t work.
