| Shelf queen status complete
After settling on a color scheme for my shelf queen body I got to work yesterday and this morning. End results below, but here are some notes on my process for anyone doing this in the future. 1.) the window maskings that came with the body are poorly cut. The shapes didn’t line up as well as I’d like with the windows, wish they would adapt proline’s method. 2.) I used the traxxas decal kit as maskings for the sides and the tailgate. This worked out pretty well but peeling it off with clean seams takes some time. 3.) you’ll need a lot of paint, it’s a big body. 3 cans for your primary color at least. 4.) the mirrors, grill, and headlight housings have been painted chrome with rustoleum bright coat metallic finish 5.) the Ford decal on the hood and tailgate (not pictured) are the CChand emblems. These look killer in person. I also have the cchand aluminum side emblem but the hardware with these is teeny tiny and I lack the proper tools. To be added; radiatior behind the grill, lights, maybe a rear tire mount. Here are the pics... |

As someone getting ready to paint up another 79, I have to say that I was really hoping to just do a single color and be done. Then I pop in here and see that two-tone... Geeze! Why did I have to look at your pics lol!? I'm also going to be using the CCHand emblems but yea... those screws are like grains of sand in my mitts! Thanks for the heads-up on the window masks. I'll have to take a close look at those before laying them down. I've got some 2 & 3 mm tape to do window seals so maybe I can use that if I need to correct any discrepancies. Also I hadn't considered that it might take more than two cans of the Tamiya colors. Will go ahead and snag another can before I start this. Waiting on the radiator plate from Hong Kong but other than that ( and now the xtra paint lol), I'm ready to get going on this. Thanks again for the tips! Awesome job! |

Looks amazing PDanza! Is that correct, do the F O R D letters above the grill screw in from behind(I know that sounds terrible)? Are they hex screws? |

| Re: Shelf queen status complete I'm comforted to know that color comes out looking as great as it does - I had bought it several months ago for my replacement Chevy K10 Vaterra body!

Just take your time with even coats and wait an extended period of time before adding the black backer, to avoid bleed through from the blue not being dry/cured, and you should be just fine

| Re: Shelf queen status complete It’s a decal! Damn, fooled me. Looks completely 3D in the pic. Is there a trick to getting them on so straight? All 4letters look perfectly aligned. My mind is blown...

Don't do much lettering? It is really simple and requires the willingness to take your time. No real skill involved. Dont let it put you off from trying. You dont pull them off the paper when you cut them. You peel the extra away then put tape over them. After that you peel it off the backing. The trick it to draw straight lines, to line up the tape and letter square, then have a straight tape line on the body to line the tape on the decals up with.
