My Home Made $6 metal bumper

So my Bronco came with the ugly chrome bumpers, i hate chrome.

So i bought some defender bumpers and put them on but the departure angle was horrible so i decided to build some.

Bumper removed

So I bought some 3/8 and 1/4 weldable rod from crappy tire for 12 bucks.

I grounded the round bar to make it fit into the truck frame, kind of ugly but you dont see them. I used the smaller 1/4" rodfor these to fit in the square slots, didnt take much to make them fit, and there super tight

I put it in a vice and use a bar to help bend it to shape i wanted. It bent super easy.

After getting my bend i tack weld two bars togeather and tack weld the support bars on the back and test fitted.

I wanted it close in but the tires when turned would rub

added some primer

coated with rocker guard so it can take a beating

All done and mounted

So this was my first time trying this, what ya think? Be kind lol:lmao:

I have enough bar left to make a rear bumper hence the "$6" bumper.

I will trying some new designs in the future for a front with winch mount and more fancy designs.

I like it. Maybe try flipping the front bumper mount upside down to raise it closer to the body?

I think i tried that last night but then the body would hit the support shafts, but i could slightly notch the body to make it work.

Cool bumper! Are those the 2.2 Mudslingers? Or the 1.9 Mudslinger XLs? I'm interested in getting some for my Bronco and like the way your's fit.

I painted it wth rubber under coating , sucks, its rough uneven and wont cure and stickey. will prob drop it in a bucket of brake fluid then poor mans powder coat in the oven with it.

Top hoop looks great and adds to the period correctness! Maybe trim 1.4-3/8" off bumper ends and then you could move it in closer to body?

Maybe some 1.9 Mudslingers if they make them and drop the body down a tad wouldn't rub body/tires and no more gap above bumper at body?

Acetone, brake fluid or something. Clean it up good, spray paint and bake in old toaster over works great ime! :)

Actually its now in the last 3 pics up as high as it will go with the mount flipped up side down and its tight against the front cab.a little too tight lol
