| 1080 settings to get started
Ok HW1080ESC gurus. I just got my ESC installed in the TRX-4 Sport. Looking for some good, baseline settings to get started with on the program card. (1st 1080 I've ever owned) I've numbered below corresponding to the program card: 1.) Running mode - (assuming mode 3 for direct forward to reverse?) 4.) Initial Start Force - What's a good starting point? Running the Titan 550 still. 7.) Max Brake Force - assume this is bypassed with drag brake? 8.) Initial Brake Force - Same as above? Bypassed with drag brake? 9.) Drag Brake - Good starting point? 10.) Drag Brake Rate - Good starting point? 12.) Start Mode/Punch - Good starting point? 13.) PWM Frequency - ? 15.) Freewheeling - enable or disable? Thanks in advance for feedback/advice! |

There's a thread in the Electonic section (I think) of 1080 settings. Someone made a google spreadsheet and everything.

Thanks number9. I had searched Google and found it. IDK why Google works better finding stuff here then the search button!? Thanks to Jboucher for authoring this handy Excel file! Exactly what I was looking for!

Ok - thanks to Jboucher's spreadsheet, I've got my initial settings plugged in. Quick little hit on my rocks out back and things seem ok. Only think I'm not digging is from neutral to throttle on. Seems very abrupt with a good bit of deadband and then boom. I've played with 4.)Intitial Start Force, 12.) Start Mode/Punch and can't seem to find the sweet spot. IDK - maybe it's down to the TQ Tx? I was going to keep this rig with the stock Tx so I'd have a loaner, but if the Tx is the issue in this mix it's gotta go! Anyway, any suggestions? |

Made a few more changes and it seems better now. Still not a huge fan of the RTR Tx so this sucker may still get bound to my DX4C - Loaner be damned! I turned down punch control to 2. I also switched BEC voltage from 7.4 to 6. I was really wanting to maximize the servo torque, but it's still well over 300ozs at 6 volts. I think maybe the demand was too much for the Traxxas Rx which is rated at 6 volts and possibly causing the on/off feel at the trigger. |

I run my bronco with the 1080wp with stock tqi radio and receiver with 7.4v servo and have way smoother control than I did stock? I do punch 2-3 (3S here) Initial start force 1 ( 0 percent) And that last freewheeling setting really does make the accelerator seem much more linear. Perhaps try resetting the TQI? Because this combo is silky smooth here? Perhaps your expo is out of whack? PS: I found some of those settings on the list to be very odd. Punch 9 on a crawler? Lol. No. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So what are the settings list you settled on? I’d like to try them out.

The best suggestion is trying a lower initial start. Try a lower punch. 5 is higher than most stock rtr esc’s. Try 2-3. Try freewheeling. Instead of all punch at once, it will smooth it out Initial start lower really made mine smooth out in addition to the lower punch. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Some of my buddies LIKE for them to be abrupt - they do backward wheelies and such, and higher speeds. You have some advantages with your 2-speed trans. And yes, freewheeling was turned on right away. I run 6v for my lighting, and its fine for the servo. If I want to step it up a notch I'll up the volts to 7.4. The braking settings don't apply for crawling and drag brake, so you can set those to zero or disregard. At least this is what works for me. I have 3 of them and think they're great. It makes them much smoother to drive, especially on 3s, it's almost like cheating.
