Default Danza’s TRX4 update - Tacoma (now Comanche)

New year new body, for the truck at least. The cut out bed on the hilux wasn’t aging too well after a tumble a couple weeks ago so it was time for an update. Opted for the rc4wd Tacoma this time around. Color is Corsa gray with rustoleum bed liner in the bed.

For $50 this is a great body set. Lexan is thick and shiny, a little worried that it may not flex as well as the Proline Lexan. The scale bits included like the handles and grill and bumpers are all nice too. The decal options are great, 3 different options for window “tint” and for headlights. The handles, mirrors, and wipers all attach with glue though, wasn’t thrilled about that but I’m glad they’re there.

The rear is sitting as low as I could get it, I’ve slotted the bed so the top of the HR shock mounts can poke through but it’s about bottomed out unless I want the whole tower protruding. The body isn’t completely mounted yet, working on a magnet set up today.

Other updates recently installed are the Crawler innovations front electronics tray and the ssd wheel hexes.

Full parts list:
Trx4 bronco at birth
Mamba x w/2280 slate motor
Protek 150t and heyok bec @ 7.4v
Locked front and rear axles
Rear underdrive
Front overdrive
Super shafty bomb proof drive shafts
Xtra speed axle housings
HR brass diff cover up front
Samix brass c hubs
Samix brass portal covers
Ssd brass portal weights
Rear aluminum portal mount
Ptfe Coated shock shafts
Orange springs up front
Samix brass lower spring cups
SSD brass wheel hubs in rear
Crawler innovations front electronics tray
SSD wheel hexes
SSD contender wheels
Proline hyrax Predator 4.75” with Proline dual stage foams
Wertymade front stubby bumper

If anyone is using magnets to mount their body on a trx4 please share a pic of your setup. I have a plan with some little cups for the magnets but not 100% sold it’s the most effective placement.

Thanks! Been wanting to do something corsa gray for a little bit now and it seemed to fit this truck all right.

Nice lookin rig Danza! The body looks really good on there. When I first saw these bodies, I thought the looked to narrow. But after seeing yours I think it looks great. Color is awesome too.

Your parts list is very similar to mine. Love how mine performs.

Here’s what I’ve come up with for mounting, went with both magnets and Velcro as the magnets didn’t feel like they’d hold on a tumble. Hitting the rocks tomorrow.

Thanks B. It is pretty narrow, I had to trim a little bit off the bottom tray to keep it from sticking out, the mamba x wouldn’t have fit under the body how
I had it before. Overall I like the fit, makes those hyrax look massive though

I always wondered what the Taco body would look like on a non TF2 rig. Looks good!

Just FYI, keep an eye on those front HR shock mounts specifically the panhard mount. I used to run them until the panhard mount just broke off one day. No bashing just slow rock crawling. After looking at the broken part it was clear to me that it was a design problem due to minimal cross section of material.

That doesn’t look good. Thanks for the heads up. What did you switch to?

I switched to the Yeah Racing shock mounts. The only down side is that they provide no upper shock mount location adjustments but Oh well. BTW, I love the new Tacoma body!

Good looking truck. Love the Tacoma body, reminds me of my old truck I used to have. Just keep doing what your doing.

Got out for a couple hours today to a new spot (for me). The truck did great but one of the magnets came off the body, going to have to figure out a better solution. Next up is the adjustable position lower shock mounts for the rear axle and maybe a rear swaybar.

When you get a chance can you measure the width from wheel well to wheel well on the taco?

At the wheel wells it’s right about 7”. At the cab it’s right about 6”.

Love this truck looks great. Seen this lastnight, and a body just hit the classifieds.... I have no self control and easily influenced.

Nice work, I too would have thought it was too narrow but it fits a 1 ton Taco well!

Remember this part? Well, two bad news. After inspecting the body again I noticed that paint was starting to separate from the the body shell. It was like a bubble was forming underneath the paint. At first I thought maybe I didn’t rinse/dry it well enough and some soap or water was lifting the paint. Proceeded to cut out the bubble, re-mask the windows, and fix the paint.

I then notice that the body is actually cracked right where the bubble started. Picture below (after the paint was fixed). Apparently this crack then let air and whatever else breathe in that started to separate the paint. Pretty bummed out as it was a light crawl session. So I start to look over the rest of the body and I noticed yet another crack back by the taillight housing. Fixed that up with some shoe goo on the inside.

To the naked eye you’d be none the wiser that there were any issues but now I’m scared to take it out for any heavy duty sessions. Might keep this one clean as a shelfer and get another proline body for a beater.

Anyone else with a taco body have cracks? Maybe I just got unlucky with two impacts.

A fellow from a local crawling Facebook page is replacing his as well. If I understand correctly, he first had breakage in the bed area, then a tough roll over broke the area around the front mounting holes. Maybe the plastic is a bit more brittle than ProLine or maybe it’s the colder temps?

I thought about the colder temps, it was low 50s when this happened though so not super cold. There was a honcho that tumbled a good hundred feet down and it only broke a body post but the body was surprisingly fine.

If I hear about more of these cracking, like your fellow local, then I’ll assume it’s the rc4wd Lexan and switch to another body. Any idea how long he has his taco body for?

I figured it’s about time I updated this thread on the taco. I’ve had the body sitting for a while since I put together the Comanche body but I put the taco back on this weekend. Unfortunately it suffered another crack, this time in the rear along the side of the bed and towards the back of the cab. It’s a pretty big one. It was cold out this last time but I can’t recall any significant rolls as it was a light and easy run on more dirt than rocks.

So the Comanche body will be the primary body for the rex going forward. Taco will be kept for a spare.

Now the fun stuff, we had some snow and quite a bit of rain here over the last week so the streams out at Calico basin are flowing. Made for a great relaxing day of yotas and photos. Here’s the photo dump from the run and one shot of the Comanche for the new look. These guys got me itching for a tf2 marlin now.
